When I grew up in small country towns in Victoria, Australia, there was no internet, and so "culture" was combine harvesters and sheep dip. Luckily my parents were school teachers, and so every holidays they dragged me off to all kinds of cultural events; plays, theatre, opera, film, sport, even pantomimes.
