Doctor Of Theology (New Testament) / Graduate AssistantLudwig-Maximilians-Universität (Lmu) München Oct 2011 - Jan 2018Munich Area, GermanyI completed a Th.D. in New Testament at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. I investigated the use of story in the Letter to the Hebrews. I examined the author's use of a particular text to show how he used the text and the story behind it to shape his argument and to draw his audience into a greater story. I offer a critique of and substitute for the dominant paradigm of interpretation for the letter. I examine the development of this paradigm throughout history and show that it has led to a loss of a coherent, biblical understanding of the letter, its theology and its place in the story of redemption. I offer an alternative, supported by Augustine and Luther, that captures the emphasis the author places on faith and unbelief. It does justice to the story of redemption and the biblical and theological commitments of the author, while seeking to maintain faithfulness to the historical situation of the letter. -
