    Over the last two years at Cisco, after the acquisition of Skyport, I designed the architecture for a distributed, cloud-hosted, SaaS-delivered application for monitoring the Internet routing structure. In addition to architecture work, I coded/implemented critical parts of the system and oversaw the design, implementation and review of individual components.The delivered SaaS application uses hundreds of BGP sample points to establish a real-time view of the total internet routing table. Data is first gathered form the sample points and then incrementally processed through a low-latency multi-layer shared-nothing digestion and analysis pipeline that provides not just realtime views, but queryable views of event and structural history of the global routing state, rules violation detection and alerting over multiple channels, and real-time violation state. Each layer is horizontally scalable. Multiple forms of data volume reduction are implemented in the system to ensure that costs are manageable as scale increases.In addition, the same system has been extended to provide other applications, including individual router security monitoring of software execution information and two other, two-be-announced applications. Critical areas of focus have been to ensure state compression is present, correctness, scalability and supportability.In addition to the work on the SaaS platform, I have spent significant time with almost every team in the service provider group: system software, mobility, and automation. I have also participated/lead several technical diligence cycles with eight+ potential acquisitions and worked with a peer on strategy and planning for new domains in the service provider space.Domains: security, networking, secure systems, proxies, data retention, compliance, routingTechnologies leveraged: FoundationDB, Kafka, Druid, LevelDB, Superset, Go, Typescript, Protocol Buffers

    As a technical manager, guided a team consisting of 10 very senior engineers in the development of ground breaking new routing platform infrastructure. Group responsibilities included packaging, in-service installation, UI (CLI/web), IPC, tracing/logging, in-memory version management (including schema evolution), tooling (workflow, ...), bootup and boot-time tasks, error messages/syslog, build and custom compilers to enable a data-driven approach to development.In addition to managing the team, my personal involvement included being directly responsible/involved in the technical side of much of the design and a significant amount actual implementation, including system-architect-level trusted reviewer for design and code, major simplification of the platform during development, and driving release issues around in-service software upgrade. A large amount of my time was spent in oversight of the platform and included a great deal of work at project-wide, cross-team scope.
