• Developed the embedded Linux images for multiple 4G (LTE) and 5G (NR) cellular products. Supported encrypted partitions to protect IP, software updates with a factory image fallback, and a licensing scheme with factory test, demo, licensed, and unlicensed modes. Developed images for Xilinx Zynq, NXP Layerscape and i.MX8 processors using Xilinx Petalinux, Yocto, and NXP Flexbuild frameworks. Custom code in Python, C, and Go. • Developed cellular product test programs that analyzed 4G/5G protocol messaging and performed traffic analysis. User interface was web-based using Python, Flask, Paramiko, and websockets. • Assembled a multi-cellular-node mesh network simulation environment using VirtualBox instances of Debian Linux. The focus was route management when LTE base-stations are on portable platforms and are moving in relation to each other and have encrypted LTE channels between nodes. • Developed a Linux and Python-based drone test platform that could be flown around a cell tower to measure beamforming and antenna performance, with a web-based user interface and a PyQt backend for real-time graphics. • Used Open Air Interface, UERANSIM, srsRAN, and Magma cellular protocol suites for development and testing. Researched using an embedded ARM CPU for a Magma Access Gateway. • Brought-up the Docker development environment for a cellular baseband processor Phy layer with 32 RISC-V cores and three CEVA DSPs, along with an NXP LS1046 processor for the L2/L3 gNodeB processes. • Created a multi-site test network using VPNs, ssh tunnels, and iptables rules. • Mentored junior engineers in Python and test development.

Executed bench validation for a DDR5 memory channel device. Developed a Python-based test automation environment with a database back end (MariaDB) and a web server tracking/reporting interface (Django-based). Ported the database and web interface to Docker containers for production deployment in an IT-maintained VM. Led the software and hardware teams in the design, testing, and documentation of a DDR4 NVDIMM product. Developed the test automation environment, executed all validation tests in accordance with the design specification and contract, wrote the final Validation Report, and wrote a very detailed Designers Guide to the internals of the software.

Managed a team of software engineers in the development of device driver software for protocol integrated circuits (OTN, Ethernet, SONET/SDH). Developed the automated regression test environments in Perl and Python, including tester GUIs, web front-ends, and database back-ends. The regression environment focused on stress testing, dynamic reconfigurability, and randomization.Developed the board support layer and worked with hardware engineers to bring-up the boards.

I started as a product sustaining engineer for the DMS-100 central office switch. I then moved to management and led a group of engineers in sustaining the XPM and LCM product lines. I moved to a cost reduction role where I drove hardware redesign-oriented cost reduction programs. I then did design and applications engineering work in the Telemodule Technologies group that was taking Nortel's analog line card technology to external customers. Finally, I moved to an ASIC design management position where I led a team of engineers in the development of 40G ASICs.
