Rob Starner is an ordained minister with over four decades of service in Christian higher education. He is committed to leading people to a saving relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and empowering them to do the same through a mission of preaching, teaching, writing, and . . . wait for it . . . dramatic performances.The Bible is our greatest resource for knowing God, but it was never intended as a “stand-alone.” God didn’t just hurl it from space, plop it on the temple courts in Jerusalem, and say, “Here! Have at it, Y’all! Make of it whatever you want!” No! He set the stage by revealing Himself to PEOPLE (OT prophets, priests, and kings).Then He provided the Quintessential PERSON (Image, Representation, Revelation of Himself) in His unique Son, Jesus (Jn 14:9). And after that, He gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastor-teachers (Eph 4:11-13)—and dare we not also include hymn writers, and artists of various stripes, even filmmakers(!)—to explain the meaning of the Bible and prompt personal engagement with it?In short, God gave the Bible to The Church (The Chosen Ones), but He also gave The Church (The Chosen Ones) to the Bible. So The Church needs the Bible, and the Bible needs The Church.Similarly, The Church needs The Chosen TV series and The Chosen TV series needs The Church.Knowledge of God is not only knowing facts ABOUT God, but also having an on-going, personal experience (relationship!) WITH God. The dramatic arts, by their very nature, draw audiences into a personal engagement (experience) with the story they portray.
