I lead the IGF's work on mine closure, abandoned mines and the post-mining transition. This includes working with IGF member governments on capacity building (training), and technical assistance such as the review of policy or regulations. It also includes supporting members with the development of guidelines for mine closure and mine closure plans, review of closure cost estimates, and the inventory and risk assessment of abandoned mines. Recent work includes supporting governments in Bhutan, Jamaica, Namibia, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Zambia, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), and UEMOA (West African Economic and Monetary Union).

At Pakawau, I provide consulting services to the mineral exploration and mining industry, governments, the financial sector, associations and communities to maximize opportunities and benefits from this dynamic sector. My approach is to combine technical expertise with training, team facilitation, project direction and management to ensure projects succeed and excel. I provide global mine closure expertise on the content and form of closure plans, post-mining land uses, steps in reclamation and rehabilitation, requirements for physical and chemical stability, components of cost estimating, approaches to financial assurance and stakeholder engagement. I support mining policy development and review including all aspects of mine closure as well as environmental assessment, reclamation, socioeconomic practices and requirements, investment tax incentives, permitting, mineral tenure, artisanal mining and mining codes. I provide dynamic customized training programs on the mineral exploration and mining industry including the mining life cycle, geology, exploration, mining, financing, environmental applications, reclamation, closure and engagement with communities and Indigenous people. Courses have been delivered to thousands of individuals across North and South America.I am also the Author and Publisher of the best-selling book 'Mineral Exploration and Mining Essentials" (www.miningessentials.com) - an indispensable primer for anyone interested in the mineral exploration and mining industry but who does not have a background in the sector. At AME, I worked with industry, government, Indigenous people and communities to support and advocate for a vibrant and responsible mineral exploration and development sector in British Columbia. This included review, analysis and executive-level oversight at AME for:• Environmental matters (environmental assessment and reclamation), • Permitting, • Land-use, • Social Responsibility and ESG• Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia • Economic incentives and investment confidence• Public and government affairs. I also worked with Indigenous nations, communities and regional exploration groups to support reconciliation and a responsible mineral exploration sector that benefits all British Columbians.

As Director of Partnerships and Learning, I led the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute's (CIRDI) international training and educational initiatives, advised governments on policy development, manage partnerships and outreach and provide executive level oversight of technical programs, communications, and publications. CIRDI supports the sustainable development of natural resources in developing countries through capacity building in governance, policy advice, applied research and training. Key initiatives • Led the development and delivery of technical training related to mine closure, environmental impact assessment, tailings and community engagement for national governments in Africa (Tanzania, Ghana and Ethiopia), South America (Argentina and Suriname) and Asia (Papua New Guinea).• Advised government on leading global policy standards related to the sustainable development of mining and supported the development of policies and regulatory guidelines. • Managed the development of training and policy advice for the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector in areas of gender equity, environmental impact assessment and technical skills• Executive management of international development programs and teams of international experts. • Executive oversight on the renewal of CIRDI’s image and branding including a new website and communications tools and integration of CIRDI’s work with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

I provide academic and administrative leadership for a dynamic group of diploma and degree programs under the tag line "Find it - Map it - Design it - Extract it - Restore it" The programs include Mining and Mineral Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forest and Natural Areas Management, Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics, Fish, Wildlife and Recreation, and Ecological Restoration.Key responsibilities include directing the operation and development of academic programming from certificates through degrees, managing diverse and complex budgets, directly manage more than 70 faculty and staff, developing strategic relationships with industry and key stakeholders, identifying and implementing business opportunities, providing strategic advice to senior leadership, supporting marketing initiatives, working closely with industry Program Advisory Committees and other post-secondary institutions, counseling students, motivating staff, directing the recruitment of faculty and staff, and supporting the implementation of BCIT's strategic plan.

During ten years with the department, I built it from one consisting of a two-year diploma with few students to one with a full slate of students in the diploma, an active part-time studies program, a suite of online courses, an Aboriginal Minerals Training Program, an Associate Certificate, and a research program.
