About Rob Thorley

Rob undertook his planning training at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, studying for a BA(hons) in Town & Country Planning and a Diploma in Town Planning. This included a year out in practice with Daventry District Council. On leaving University Rob started his career in the Development Control team at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, rising from Graduate to Area team Leader in his seven years with them. He moved to GVA (now Avison Young) in 2005 as a Principal Planner and became a Director in May 2015. At GVA Rob developed a specialism in the housing sector, helping clients to secure numerous planning permissions across a range of challenging green and brownfield sites. This has included presenting evidence on housing policy and land supply matters at over 10 Public Inquiries.In January 2016 Rob joined Leicester based house builder Jelson Homes as its Land and Planning Manager and became its Land & Plannng Director in 2018.
