Managing the business imperative of Operational Excellence across a generating portfolio of nearly 4000MW made up of CCGT, OCGT, off-shore & on-shore wind capacity. Has developed and led a programme focused on elimination of production losses, Continuous Improvement, revenue enhancement, risk reduction and waste removal in all areas of the business. Identified and prioritised issues which had a direct impact on improving reliability, availability and unit cost of production. Actions taken produced a double digit percentage reduction in production losses on both the CCGT and off-shore wind assets. This was achieved by leading a dedicated high performing project team with strong technical, commercial and safety bias.
Brought into this 229MW gas fired Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station to manage the changes resulting from moving from CCGT operations into Open Cycle fast response dispatch by National Grid. As the senior manager on site, managed a team reduction and directly responsible for all aspects of operation, maintenance, HSE, regulatory compliance, staff engagement & development, change management and station financial control and planning. When all commercial and economic options had been exhausted, managed the process to mothball the CCGT site and reduce manning to a minimum team for asset safety, preservation, maintenance and security. Reduced the team from 19 to 6 with innovative thinking finding new opportunities for all the personnel affected by the re-structure.Set up and implemented maintenance regimes, operational and safety routines and strategy for the equipment to be retained/sold/re-used at other assets.
Filling a newly created position within the Asset Integrity Team based at Peterborough Power Station, managing a project to optimise plant performance of the Centrica fleet of CCGT’s. Deliverables have been achieved through plant improvements, portfolio projects, production & management of thermal performance monitoring and thermal audits. Enhanced visibility and engagement has been gained through a training course written and developed by the Performance Engineer. Works closely with the fleet to monitor and optimise the stations performance, including being the focal point for all portfolio operational reporting and KPI’s. Working within the Asset Integrity Team is the Technical Authority within the area of CCGT operations and performance.
As part of the management team, was responsible for the delivery of safe, reliable and efficient operational performance of the 229MW CCGT power station to provide maximum flexibility and optimise commercial opertunities. Manages the day-to-day health, safety and environmental performance to ensure constant improvement whilst complying with current legislation and company procedures. Reporting directly to the Station Manager, ensures that effective communication is maintained between the stations management and the operations team. As a budget holder, must prioritise and manage legislative implementation, projects and training for health, safety and environmental issues and operational practices.

Trained and performed as a watch keeping engineer, was responsible for day to day running of plant machinery, hotel services, electrical and control systems. Serving on LNG (liquefied natural gas) and Crude Oil ships of less than 6 months old to ships that had been in service for more than 30 years with shaft powers of up to 25,000kW. Working on steam powered ships with dual fired boilers, working at medium to high steam pressures. Primary duties include the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment on board along with the safe and efficient operation of the steam plant. This includes propulsion steam turbines along with steam turbine and diesel driven generators of up to 3.8MW at 3.3KV.
