How have you gotten to where you are today, other than hard work?Response: One of the main keys to my success has been networking. Relationships with people are the foundation of business and over the years I have fostered excellent connections, spent the time to maintain my relationships, and leveraged the wisdom of mentors. I have kept the same phone number for 25 years, so people always know where to find me. Having persistence is important because there will always be obstacles and setbacks in any career and dealing with those in a positive way and continuing to push ahead is what determines if you ultimately succeed or not. I make sure never to burn bridges because it is a very small world, and a minor vendor one day may be a key customer the next day. It pays to always treat people with respect and leave everyone with good feelings about your interactions together. Asking for what you want is important – nobody is going to give you something without you even asking for it. Lastly, you would be surprised how big an impact smiling at people makes! I make it a point to smile at everyone throughout my day. What or who inspired you to pursue the career that you did?Response: The original inspiration came from my 6th grade art teacher, who introduced me to designing floor plans. I got very interested in drafting and got the opportunity to work on a major project in my hometown that allowed me to be involved with cutting edge technological developments in the engineering field. I learned that I could work in a career that fused concepts of art, design, and engineering, something that I previously didn’t realize was possible. Additionally, I have had several mentors throughout the years that have helped foster my passion and helped me to successfully navigate my career.
