In this role at a small company, I was responsible for assisting customers in designing workflow applications that captured and improved business processes. This experience provided me with the opportunity to take on diverse responsibilities and wear multiple hats. Stew Bloom, our chief sales expert, went on to achieve great success with E&Y, IBM, and other ventures. Observing Stew's work and customer relations approach taught me valuable lessons.As an independent contributor, I visited clients individually and provided tailored IT solutions to address their specific needs. During my tenure, I developed a highly successful software application, which the company packaged and sold, creating additional consulting opportunities. After two and a half years at DSSI, the company was acquired by Ernst & Young. Equipped with the experience and knowledge gained from my time at DSSI, I embarked on my own professional journey.

At Ernst & Young, I gained valuable insights into the consulting industry under the guidance of three exceptional mentors: Valerie Olbrick, Joe Healey, and Pat Garrett. From the outset, I was fortunate to have their support and expertise as they introduced me to the world of consulting. Together, we traveled the country, assisting companies in addressing their IT needs with a focus on workflow, workgroups, and outsourcing.After two enriching years, I seized the opportunity to join a smaller, entrepreneurial firm, DSSI, which specialized in harnessing technology to enhance corporate workflow. I transitioned from Ernst & Young, eager to further explore the dynamic intersection of technology and business process improvement.

As a part-time controller for this burgeoning company led by Dr. James Tiernan, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience. Although Dr. Tiernan encouraged me to continue working with the company after graduation, my aspirations in management consulting led me to join Ernst & Young in pursuit of broader experience. Dr. Tiernan later established a thriving company that went public.Dr. Tiernan served as an outstanding teacher and mentor, from whom I learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to one's passions in achieving great success.

I was privileged to secure an opportunity, while pursuing my full-time education, to collaborate with an exceptionally talented Finance professor. Our work together revolved around his innovative research in the realm of Modern Portfolio Theory, allowing me to gain valuable insights and experience in this fascinating field.

In my first role after college, I was responsible for testing and enhancing an IBM SNA-based architecture that facilitated communication between NCR and IBM computers. Surrounded by highly skilled and experienced colleagues, I was inspired by their expertise and realized the importance of complementing my programming abilities with business acumen in order to excel in the competitive landscape.NCR provided me with the insight to further my education, and I am grateful to my supportive boss, Rick Nidzieko, who encouraged me to initially pursue graduate studies part-time and eventually transition to full-time enrollment when my enthusiasm grew.
