Manage and edit over 100 data modules comprising the electronic manual for the 154-WPC class within the U.S. Coast Guard. Duties include command line scripting, editing changes, managing links, and manipulating the XML to produce proper formatting in compliance with the global S1000.D specification. Build front-end web pages for use within the Coast Guard. Solely developed a front-end web application to manage and access thousands of technical documents. This replaced a proprietary, subscription-based application, saving the Coast Guard $20k annually. The site was built using HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, jQuery, and JavaScript.

I currently work as a technical editor and XML editor as a contractor for the U.S. Coast Guard. As one of the final steps in the technical publication process, I edit the technical writing of maintenance procedure cards used by the fleet, while converting them to PDF using XML. Since joining the team, I've found new and effective ways to use the programming language in Arbortext to significantly cut down on time spent on the conversion process. Some processes have been cut down by more than half their time by utilizing the programming language. In this capacity, I've been able to convert between 175-200 pages of PDFs per week on a consistent basis.

As a technical writer with a current DoD clearance, I edited and formatted military equipment manuals on an electronic publications conversion project (TO 56) to assist warfighters, in accordance with the Military Standard 40051-2A. I became one of the top technical writers with intimate knowledge of the content and parameters of the manuals and assisted in the final review process for Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC). The job required great attention to detail and content management, as there were several formats for different branches of the military and many variables depending on the type of equipment. Attention to spelling, grammar, and punctuation was also necessary. In addition to editing, I also learned to code in XML and became one of the lead programmers on the project, so that I became an SME on certain aspects of coding and was asked to train other new XML programmers. I was also the only person to fully cross-collaborate as both a technical writer and an XML programmer. Because of that, I was the only person on the project assigned solely to government reworks, the final revision before the final delivery.
