Door deze verschillende ervaringen, heb ik opgemerkt dat mijn passie aan de data kant/Business Control ligt. Ik ben namelijk van mening dat de moderne financial niet zonder data kan. Mijn kracht is dat ik snel verbanden leg tussen data, maar ook dat ik middels Power BI en Excel dashboards kan bouwen die voor de organisatie bruikbaar zijn. Daarmee creëer ik niet alleen inzichten voor mezelf, maar ook voor de organisatie. Ook met het (functioneel) aansturen van een team ben ik niet onbekend. Bij zowel Duvel als IKEA heb ik de functionele aansturing van collega's gedaan. Ik probeer mensen daarin veel vrijheid en verantwoordelijkheid te geven en zich daardoor snel te laten ontwikkelen. Daar ligt mijn andere kracht, vanuit het teamgevoel met elkaar het beste resultaat neerzetten.

    IKEA is the largest home furnishing company in the world offering a wide range of products to customers. The vision is to make a better everyday life for the many people.Within IKEA Netherlands I'm active as Country Financial Controller, where I have responsiblity for the margin, product-related services and assets/projects portfolios. In addition, as Financial Controller I am also responsible for all kinds of (financial) dashboards to maintain and develop them and to present the figures to the financial board every month. I also supervise the year-end audits with the accountant for sales and cost of goods sold.Within the Finance and accounting team, I manage (operationally) the accounting & reporting specialists who are within my field of responsibility. What were results at IKEA? Time savings by automating reports through the use of Power BI. This also reduces the sensitivity to errors, because there are less manual actions. Here we are talking about more than 20 hours of savings on a monthly basis, of course in addition to the extra insights this has given the organization. Also getting several cost components under control and therefore being able to steer the organization in a more durable way has been one of my achievements.

    Duvel Moortgat is one of the best craft beer breweries in the world. Brands that are in the portfolio of Duvel Moortgat are Chouffe, Liefmans, Brouwerij 't IJ, Vedett, Firestone Walker and of course Duvel.Within Duvel Moortgat I was responsible for the whole Finance field. Month, quarterly and year end closings, budgetting processes and several reports and analysis belonged to my area of responsibility as well as managing the Finance team. Within Duvel Moortgat I started several change projects. First of all, we integrated group thinking instead of separate companies. We, therefore, changed all of our (financial) reports. We also made sure there was a better understanding of the P&L and financial data.Furthermore I focussed on the administrative processes. I structured the timing and completeness of financial and production data and introducting and creating balance sheet specifications as well as adding more dimensions for several deparments in our source systems.Another task was the budget follow-up with the different stakeholders in other departments. We discussed the actuals up to that moment and estimated for the rest of the year. That way we secured we were in Control of our Finances.

    Brouwerij 't IJ is one of the largest craft beer breweries in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is becoming more and more familiar with the craft beer concept, which is why Brouwerij 't IJ has grown enormously in recent years, both in terms of volumes and brand awareness.At Brouwerij 't IJ I was responsible for the financial administration as well as the reporting within and outside the organization. One of the reports I set up was for the marketing department to be able to monitor their budget on a monthly basis and to analyze where the money has been spent. Every month and quarter we reported to Duvel. I was responsible for the financial closing and reporting of the figures. In addition, I also supervised the audit at the end of the year, took care of all kinds of tax returns and the calculations of the cost prices for our beers. From April 2020, my role at Brouwerij 't IJ has changed and the separate companies have merged (Brouwerij 't IJ and Duvel Moortgat in the Netherlands).

I also analysed whether it would result in time savings and how much time would be saved.

In this project, I designed reports and validated the data that was put in the datawarehouse. Also, I did the data validation for our ERP-system. I was one of contact persons regarding questions or to develop new reports in our BI tool. I also joined the project to reduce the inventory. My role in this project was building a template and make guidelines for the Category Managers as well as monitoring the progress of the project.

    During this internship, I researched how the labour costs at the stores of Groenblok B.V. (operating under the name Tuincentrum Overvecht) could be reduced. The focus of this research was at the use of personnel in the stores.During this research, I interviewed store managers, controllers, sales managers, the CEO and CFO. The interviews were about the budgets for the stores and the deployment of staff within the budgets. The results indicated that it was unclear to store managers how they could manage their budgets. I designed an Excel model which helped store managers with the deployment of the personnel, taking the different seasons into account. The model made, based on revenue predictions, an estimation for the use of staff hours and a comparison could be made based on the predictions and the reality.In the first period of this internship, I was part of calculating the budgets for the stores and during the whole internship I was the first contact for problems or questions with regard to the time registration system.
