Decoding Dyslexia Texas balances three principals, we Educate Advocate and Legislate. As a leader of Decoding Dyslexia Texas I work tirelessly to better outcomes for students with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and other Specific Learning Disabilities by working collaboratively with parents, schools, districts and policy makers. Much of my focus is on maximizing student potential through sharing knowledge, research and advocating for best practice with policy and decision makers at all levels in Texas, Washington DC and Internationally. I have a strong desire to help students, families, schools, legislators and organizations understand the unique needs of students with dyslexia and related disorders and help to create environments that support the best outcomes for All Students with Disabilities. My guiding philosophy is Access is Vital to Success. Access to Education, Access to Early Ongoing Appropriate Interventions and Access to Technology that Allows Students with Dyslexia and Related Disorders to be reach their full potential.I am Honored to serve on the following Committees:Texas Dyslexia Handbook Revision Committee 2018Bookshare Advisory Committee through the US Dept of EducationCoalition Of Disability Stakeholders meeting with Texas Education AgencyAustin ISD Dyslexia Stakeholders CommitteeDecoding Dyslexia DC Hill Days Committee My advocacy started on behalf of my son Ben Cooper who has now become student advocate speaking at universities, to congress and at SXSWedu. Ben inspires my advocacy and guides my time as I go through this journey with him. His perspective as a student living with dyslexia cannot be told any better than by him. His daily struggles and success are at the core of what guides my efforts to improve outcomes for students with dyslexia and all students with disabilities. He has tremendous drive I constantly learn from him, he leads, I follow!
