Managed the day to day operation of the life support systems in the Balfron farm. This involved supervising a team of technicians.Duties Include:- Daily checks, maintenance and repair of equipment. - Training and supervision of new staff members in internal procedures and processes.- Deputising when RAS Manager was not on site.- Planning and development of new life support systems on the farm. - Keeping an up to date record of operational expenditures.- Liasing with the Production and Operations managers. Great British Prawns uses land-based Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) to produce locally grown, premium quality Whiteleg Shrimp. The production model is designed for maximum sustainability through the use of renewable energy and nearly all wastewater produced is biologically remediated and suitable for re use.- Daily checks, maintenance and repair of equipment. - Troubleshooting and retrofitting for greater system efficiency.- Monitoring and recording KPIs such as water quality, water and energy usage. - Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the RAS facility. - Preparation and treatment of artificial salt water. - Preparation of probiotic cultures.- Basic joinery and electrical work.- Maintenance of grounds. I am also involved in assisting with daily production tasks in the growout, larval rearing and maturation areas of the farm/hatchery.

As a relief duty officer I had to support the efficient and safe operation of the aquarium by supervising the aquarium employees to deliver a top quality visitor experience, according to policy and procedure.

As an aquarium assistant I had to communicate information about marine life to visitors, either informal or when delivering formal presentations to schools. I was responsible for general aquarium duties such as ensuring the facility and exhibits were in a clean condition, the animals were cared for and life systems were operational. This involved preparing and dispensing food, identifying and treating illness and maintaining proper water quality. In addition to this I was involved in the refurbishment of several displays throughout the aquarium. This included a number of our smaller displays and the central exhibit, a 450,000 litre native kelp reef display. I was also involved in breeding sea horses and started a moon jellyfish culture which I personally managed.

My primary responsibility was to care for the invertebrates and fish at the marine station. This included feeding the animals, maintenance of their tanks through cleaning, keeping it as natural as possible by creating an ambient habitat and maintaining aquarium equipment. In addition to this I also helped with the experiments being conducted.Facilities include twin intake pipes and distribution system, a UV steriliser, insulated fibre glass tanks with built in heat exchange panels, a microalgae photobioreactor and a 100,000 litre capacity mesocosm tank.

Involves helping/instructing students with final year research projects. This ranged from field work including quantitative and qualitative surveys to lab work which includes animal husbandry, sample preparation/preservation, microscope work and taxonomic identification. A large part of this job involved instructing students in the use of Geographic Information Systems such as ArcMap and has also included helping construct a research proposal.
