The Colorado Grain Chain (CGC) advocates for a sovereign, locally adapted, and environmentally responsible (emphasis on watershed stewardship, regenerative agriculture and nutritional density) Colorado heritage grain ecosystem. We engage and connect growers, artisan food makers (bakers, brewers, distillers, maltsters, brewers, chefs, enthusiasts, etc.), and industry supporters such as grocers, education, trade groups, etc. to expand the knowledge and use of locally adapted and grown grains.

Innisfree is a portfolio company, housing my investments, consulting, board work, media, and real estate. The mission is to advance the practice of regenerative principles in business and society. I collaborate with innovation-based organizations such as Google, Zappos, New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute, New Hope, Idea Village, TechStars, Naturally Boulder, PSFK, the Unreasonable Institute, TEDx, Inc., Uncharted, Village Capital, Defy Ventures, Future Partners, Solve Next, Boomtown, Next Accelerator, Silicon Prairie, Sustainable Brands, and the U.S. State Department. Two companies I co-founded, Naked Pizza and Trumpet, were recognized by Fast Company as “Most Innovative Companies in the World.”Especially proud of my kids, granddaughter Nora, and my 3 and 1/2 decade (and counting) marriage to my wife and partner, the artist Tricia Duffy Vitrano.

Idea Village is the global prototype for place-based entrepreneurial ecosystems. Through our work, catalyzed in New Orleans' recovery following Hurricane Katrina, Idea Village has consulted in the development of place-based innovation ecosystem around the world, including Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Latvia, Greece, Ireland, Estonia, and Spain. Idea Village is partnered with organizations such as Google, GE, Coke, and Salesforce.com, universities such as Stanford and Harvard, and venture capital firms such as TPG and Steve Case's Revolution, in developing best practice for supporting entrepreneurship as an agent of economic and social transformation. I am a co-founder and active advisor and mentor.

Porchjam is the largest production distillery in New Orleans.

Good Spread is an organic food brand and culture experiment in social connection, justice, and advocacy, designed to engage the consumer market to help eradicate Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM, a chronic disease and leading cause of death among children under 5). It was born from a non-profit called MANA Nutrition. MANA makes a vitamin-fortified, therapeutic peanut butter (called RUTF--Ready to Use Therapeutic Food--created by Doctors Without Borders & UNICEF) that effectively cures SAM. 96% effective (improving the previous method by more than double). But only 1/3 of the RUTF needed is funded. We leveraged MANA’s supply chain (they make tons of peanut butter), vertically integrating GS to help close the funding gap for RUTF. Every product sold provides one treatment. It is the simplest way we could think of to get together with the millions of people who dig peanut butter ($1.8B sales, 92% of American pantries) and the ecosystem of grocers, distributors, etc. to save a child’s life.Good Spread continues to explore leveraged collaboration with global food companies and support the critical work of MANA to address the global epidemic of malnutrition (the obscenity of 2 Billion people obese/sick from nutritionally-poor food, and 1 billion facing starvation due to a lack of access to nutritional food).

Trumpet Ventures combines my work as a co-founder of entrepreneurial hub Idea Village, extensive start-up work, launch of Naked Pizza, and Trumpet's branding, marketing, customer development, and product development expertise.

That's where the billions and billions are served.My work is the design of a sustainable organization built from purpose and profit to deliver on its promise and created unforgettable customer experiences. Naked Pizza was sold to an investor group led by Mark Cuban in 2014.

Direct strategies for building the digital, media and creative industries in the greater New Orleans region as member of this private economic development agency's board of directors

While the curriculum dealt with various aspects of marketing craft, the class work zoomed out to broader social implications. This included the application of advertising in the context of a rapidly changing, technology-enabled media and market environment. Of particular emphasis was challenging students to consider the implications and dynamics of consumption, growth-for-growth-sake, business ethics, social responsibility, stewarding of resources, etc. Students addressed community building, product development, and managing digital platforms.

I served as a commissioner before, through and following the impacts of Hurricane Katrina. My focus was on the entrepreneurial ecosystem, environmental impacts, and affordable housing/homelessness.
