Rob Boss (PhD Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) writes and edits books, as well as develops software that visualizes the writings and thought of Jonathan Edwards and other large historical/theological corpora. In October 2017 he launched the Visual Edwards Project.The idea behind the Visual Edwards project is to visualize the writings and thought of Jonathan Edwards in a creative way that facilitates exploration, study, and presentation. The sophisticated, image-rich theology of Edwards is a perfect match for today’s visual and tech-driven culture. Initially an effort to visualize Edwards’ natural typology, the Visual Edwards Project has now extended to the rest of the printed corpus—Yale’s 73 volumes of The Works of Jonathan Edwards."It's been a truly creative endeavor. The first prototype of Visual Edwards was written in the Processing programming language and presented at Gateway Seminary (Jan 2019), then again at Yale Divinity School (Oct 2019). By the time I presented the project at Karoli Gaspar University in Budapest (Dec 2019), I was translating the project into the Python language. Boss is enthusiastic about upcoming collaborative projects which will demonstrate the continued relevance of Edwards’ fruitful theology.
