GLOBAL LIFE SCIENCES/HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVE AND BOARD DIRECTORI am a global life sciences and healthcare executive and board director with a passion for using technology and molecular data to improve people’s lives. This passion has fueled a track record of leading businesses to consistently meet and exceed financial and other objectives. I bring the ability to grow and scale companies across a variety of businesses and markets within the life sciences tools, technologies, and data insight segments. The approach I utilize relies on marrying a customer segment's unmet needs with a company’s technologies in a way that is profitable:Step 1: Identify the most attractive opportunities for growth Step 2: Harmonize the vision, strategy and execution of the company by aligning the Board, C-suite, executive team, and employee population toward the same set of primary objectivesStep 3: Build and partner with a strong, collaborative leadership team to executeStep 4: Ensure that the right measurement systems are in place to track progress against our goals. I have applied this approach in a number of senior executive roles, currently at Veracyte as Chief Business Officer, and recently at Genuity Science as the CEO focusing on utilizing the intersection of molecular data and data science (including AI) to derive genomic data insights. These insights enabled us to collaborate with biotech and pharmaceutical companies to accelerate their drug discovery and development efforts. I utilized a variation of this playbook at Illumina leading the Life Sciences & Applied Genomics business, and before that as an executive and general manager at Life Technologies/Thermo Fisher where I led a number of different business units including cell culture, enterprise genomics (including next generation sequencing/NGS and genomic medicine), in vitro drug safety testing (also referred to as ADME/Tox), and molecular & protein biology. This approach ties together my earliest professional experiences including the strategic components I learned as a consultant at McKinsey & Co. and the operational components I learned as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt at Gateway Computers.I have been invited to speak at international conferences on personalized medicine, genomics, medical devices and other topics. I am passionate about genomics and other -omics technologies as a means to revolutionize healthcare and I believe that passion comes through in the talks I give.

A subsequent re-organization under a later Division President morphed that business leadership position into a formal GM role with more direct-line functional responsibility for the $750M subset of that portfolio related to molecular and protein biology. The business achieved or exceeded revenue plan and competitor index target during all full years of responsibility through multiple approaches, including key talent upgrades and the implementation of a detailed review of the product strategy for all 75+ product lines across the business using rigorous analytical frameworks. We also reinvigorated the product roadmap and doubled the product vitality index (percent of revenue coming from products introduced in the past 12 months), including the successful delivery and commercialization of multiple product development projects that each drove over $5M of revenue in their first year of sales.Based on results delivered and future potential, I was selected within Life Technologies as a ‘CEO designate’, a group of 10-12 high potential senior leaders identified as being on a C-suite trajectory and offered special development and mentorship opportunities. -

Working with a group of senior scientists, I led the team that established, engineered, initiated and implemented the execution plan that subsequently led to profitability. That transformation almost doubled the products business during my tenure. Part of the growth came from initiatives to expand the business' reach into new geographies including the opening of a new lab and build-out of commercial resources, leading to ex-US growth of 37% in a globally declining market environment. -
