-WasLive Reliability: WasLive is a VOD of a live stream (FB Live, IG Live, etc.) after it's completed so creators can share content after the broadcast ends. I designed and implemented the ability to run duplicate video encoding requests against a release candidate binary in our continuous deployment system. Also set up monitors and alerts to ensure the RC binary wasn't introducing a metric regression compared to production.-Live Video Clipping: short videos (clips) can be created from live streams as they are broadcasting. I migrated this feature from a deprecated video encoding pipeline to a new one, taking advantage of an asynchronous queuing service and a lambda service. Set up robust metrics, alerts, and dashboards and ran double production and user experiments to ensure latency and reliability metrics were neutral or better compared to the previous system.-Widespread Metadata Solution: a software bug caused thousands of WasLive videos to have a critical metadata error which prevented some users from playing sound with those videos. I created a service which combed through >5TB of data to determine which encoding entities had the invalid data, and quickly delivered the correction to the impacted users.

Achievements:-Led team of three in Subscription and License Management project (back end). Designed the API including data contracts, external-facing documentation, and SLAs. Reduced latency by over 200% (compared to exclusively making external network requests) by caching infrequently changing data. This made our NorthStar goal of making one external network request (at most) per incoming request feasible, which keeps latency as low as possible.-Developed Private Offer Plans project end to end. These are subscription prices which sellers offer to a specific customer at a discount and make up ~15% of the total SaaS offers in the Teams App Store. This project included updating our existing “Offers” API, adding distributed caching to the back end to decrease latency, and updating the front end to display private offers to the user (using TypeScript, HTML, and CSS).-Migrated our service to the newest MS authentication scheme in order to be compliant with Microsoft’s Zero Trust strategy. This made our service more resilient to large scale outages, while also utilizing all the latest security improvements that Microsoft has to offer.Responsibilities:Began as team member #4 of 9 with Teams App Monetization while the product (service + single page application) was still in initial development. Integral in scaling the back end using microservice design principles and concepts from Domain Driven Design. Brought software to production: initially launching the Teams SaaS App purchase flow through the Microsoft Teams App Store with subscription and license management capabilities within Teams as a fast follow. Led multiple projects by researching, designing, developing, documenting, and creating the test infrastructure for the software, as well as creating dashboards and monitors after deployment.
