Developed the operating model for Continuous Improvement (Operational Excellence) for CEMEX in the USA (~$4 billion in revenue) that has also been adopted in other areas of the global organization. The formal model, a specialized curricula and training/certification process, included a program to assess the progress of change management. Business support was achieved through project management and lean-based activities, and lead to improved business processes and results. The team consists of 50 leaders provided coaching and facilitation of projects that supported the business units and contributed to $100 million in savings over a 3 year period.

Lead the Arizona/Southern Nevada Region for CEMEX USA, which consisted of ready mix, aggregate, asphalt and block businesses with $300 million in revenue. Following the economic downturn in 2008, our team was able to create growth in this business by increasing EBITDA by nearly $50 million in 3 years. The changes included right sizing the business, focus on profitable market segments and improved productivity. This region and team consistently lead CEMEX USA in safety and productivity, while creating profit during a challenging economy.

Engaged in an interim role to lead and stabilize the Arizona region/market for CEMEX USA while continuing as VP Sales in Cement in the Western US region. Established and executed a plan to turnaround significant revenue loss resulting from the economic downturn, which resulted in bringing the business from 70% loss of revenue to positive EBITDA.

Lead the Cement sales organization CEMEX’s Western United States region, which included California, Arizona, Colorado and Texas and consisted of 5 cement plants and 20 terminals. Managed a team of 15 sales professionals, selling over 7 million tons of cement with revenues over $700 million. Developed and implemented market segmentation and sales strategy to maximize shareholder value and generation of margins exceeding 25%.

Lead the Arizona Region for CEMEX in the USA. During the beginning of this time period, the business was generating just over $100 million in revenues and we were able to increase it to nearly $750 million in 6 years. From 2001 to 2005, we organically doubled the size of this business by leveraging our current plant network and green fielding new sites. In 2005, I lead the integration of the RMC acquisition in Arizona, doubling the business with minimal market share loss and improved margins. In 2007, I supported the transition of the Rinker acquisition that ultimately grew our business to 10 million tons of aggregates (30% margins) and 5 million cubic yards of ready mix with 15% margins as well as asphalt and block.
