Working in a small team, this broad role has involved taking on several crucial duties for the charity, including:- Managing all of the Foundation’s day-to-day digital operations and communications. Involving writing engaging content for its website, blog, social media, newsletters, and email correspondence.- Supporting the charity’s conservation programmes by coordinating fundraising appeals, marketing strategies, and working with third-party givers.- Creating visual and written content for monthly email marketing, orangutan adoption updates, and biannual supporter magazine.- Working closely with the charity’s founder and director to write grant applications and ensure deadlines for reports are met.- Growing OF’s online presence and encouraging supporter engagement.- Processing donations, correspondence, and shop orders made online through OF’s website.- Office management. Ensuring all supplies are stocked, procuring merchandise, and updating IT systems.

Advanced from seasonal and part-time coordinator to a senior permanent position working in the Supporter Services department at ZSL.- Operating in a team that process a large volume of visitor telephone calls, emails and face-to-face inquires in a supporter facing capacity.- Assisting the society’s third-party fundraising arm; liaising with external companies such as JustGiving in order to support donors.- Working closely with other ZSL departments to achieve specific goals.- Helping to promote and build the charity’s membership base of over 100,000 individuals.- Using sensitive banking information to manage and process several types of financial transaction on a daily basis.- Using SRO4, Raisers Edge, Patron Edge, Artifax, and varying Microsoft computer programs to complete daily tasks.- Training complex methods and administrative techniques to staff.- Independently assisting with the management of customer experiences, postal services, and educational bookings at London and Whipsnade Zoo.

Six months in 2014 were spent working as the senior and only western member of staff in the mountainous rainforests of Batang Toru, Sumatra, as a Camp and Research Manager. This remote field station works in association with SOCP, PanEco and Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari (YEL) with the aim of collecting valuable floral and faunal data in the forest in order to protect it, whilst also educating and involving neighbouring locals in grassroots conservation projects. Some of the tasks consisted of:- Managing the daily work schedules and timetable for a group of local non-English speaking staff members.- Organising all of the research conducted at camp and deciding the facility’s day-to-day agendas, as well as aiding in the collection of data; often working in a team but also frequently unaccompanied.- Working closely with the off-site finance team to ensure general camp logistics including food, fuel and research equipment were always stocked and in-budget.- Guiding and supporting guests when visiting the forest. This included research students, volunteers from local schools, as well as photographers and writers from National Geographic.- Assisting the educational team outside of the forest by joining teaching trips to local primary and secondary schools, while also supporting their junior tree planting programs.

In 2013, six months were spent working in the Sabangau peat-swamp rainforest in Kalimantan, Borneo, and its surrounding area as a volunteer coordinator for OuTrop -now named the Borneo Nature Foundation. In addition to arranging daily schedules and activities for groups of international volunteers, a number of varying other tasks were also undertaken, including:- Instructing volunteers and students in general rainforest safety and coordination as well as training and assisting them in research techniques such as gibbon triangulation, bear sign observation and butterfly data collection.- Leading and organising the logistics, volunteers and local Indonesian staff at five separate research expeditions in different areas of the remote Sabangau rainforest network.- Contributing to forest research by studying primates such as orangutans, gibbons and red langur monkeys, as well as supporting other ongoing investigations ranging from camera trapping and vegetation plotting to butterfly monitoring and reforestation.

Before coordinating volunteers for OuTrop, I spent seven weeks volunteering myself for the organisation as a result of winning a University alumni award. In this time I was also able to organise and carry out my own individual research study for a University dissertation which involved obtaining data on the distribution and diversity of frugivorous butterfly species.

Part-time volunteer work with this conservation group on many local nature reserves and protected areas in and around the Plymouth area. Time was largely spent undertaking varying manual and practical tasks over a number of months whilst still at university, but I was also able to consult and help with the managerial side of local nature conservation on a small scale.

Several months of part-time work spent educating children the three main stages of cycling safely in primary and secondary schools throughout Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Two years of part-time work in Adams Park stadium assisting customers and managing various service kiosks for both Wycombe Wanderers Football Club and the London Wasps Rugby Club following a period of work experience in the ‘Football in the Community’ programme.
