I lead the globally-based, 70-strong, Product Engineering team which builds and maintains the TELUS Health One platform. The TH1 platform provides employees with access to mental health and wellbeing services. It is used by tens of thousands of companies globally and supports more than 50m employees.During my tenure, I have guided the team through a challenging merger and acquisition process; worked closely with Product to deliver significant product initiatives; helped boost platform observability with the rollout of Datadog APM and RUM; completed significant migrations to platforms like MongoDB Atlas to improve performance; supported Women in Tech initiatives; helped the sales and customer support teams with client requirements; And been involved in start-up acquisition processes.

I led the backend engineering team which supported the LifeWorks application and platform (later TELUS Health One). Initially, the team was 25 strong but I grew it to 40 within 18 months.My role provided engineering leadership and vision; architectural oversight and guidance; support for individual engineers; close work with Product on the roadmap and deliverables; helped the engineering, infrastructure and security teams with the rollout of best practices; and initiated significant platform upgrade projects.The LifeWorks acquisition by TELUS occurred in August 2022.

Eurostar is a European rail operator and package holiday provider. I worked within their online development team as a Solution Architect. I helped define technical solutions so Eurostar could deliver its business goals. The role involved technical research, coding, documentation, stakeholder consultation, and mentoring. The projects I focussed on included security and content management. This included work on Auth0, Content Security Policies, and Jam Stack technologies such as Sanity and Vercel. The languages involved included TypeScript and Scala. I left my role due to the impact COVID had on the travel industry and Eurostar's business.

Immediate Media operates a number of large UK media brands, such as the Radio Times and BBC Good Food. I worked on their core WordPress and Symfony platform as a senior developer. I helped them build new features and improve existing ones while mentoring and guiding junior developers on topics such as Test Driven Development, code analysis and software architecture and design. Immediate follow an Agile Scrum workflow, most of their systems are based on AWS and they use development tools such as Vagrant and Docker.

IFPI are a music industry trade body and I joined them to provide technical consultancy and mentorship on their anti-piracy systems. Their system was built on AWS and ran numerous technologies including Java, Python, Node, Oracle and Mongo. I helped them begin to use GitLab and implement continuous integration tools, improve their standards and begin testing their systems more thoroughly. The work was complete when I delivered documentation and a presentation on how they could modernise their legacy systems and the costs involved.

Breakthrough Media were a communications agency where I was Head of Technology and ran the software development team. It included front-end and back-end developers, DevOps, QA and project management, and the team ranged in size from 8 to 16.My role was both hands-on and managerial and included a lot of strategy, architecture and consultation work. I helped design several systems including data warehouses for Breakthrough’s government clients. In addition, we managed and built data insights tools using Python, JavaScript and Tableau, along with some AI and Natural Language Processing work. The team also build and maintained 40 content websites for government and public sector clients.

StatusPeople was a Social Media Analytics company I founded in 2011. The company was closed in 2018 because I no longer felt I could offer a professional service to our paying clients. StatusPeople developed a number systems, all built around PHP, JavaScript and MySQL. The Fakers App was launched in 2012 and did Twitter follow analysis, highlighting how many fake followers an account had. It was very popular, was mentioned in Mashable and on CNN, has had over 1 million users and was still generating incoming when StatusPeople was shut down in 2018. The Fakers App is now run as a free to use Open Source project and is hosted and maintained on Digital Ocean. The Social Analytics platform allowed marketers to interact with their social media channels and track user interaction. This website was sold to another company in late 2013. My time running my business and supporting my own systems taught me a great deal about coding, dev-ops and database management as I had to build and maintain everything myself. Along with the business of technology and the contract law which sits around it.

Web Technology Group, now part of Civica, were a development house who worked on UK Government projects. During my time at WTG I worked on a number of PHP based projects including two Laravel sites, a legacy rebuild and a greenfield project. I worked as both a senior developer and a lead developer, we worked in an agile environment with two week sprints and followed Test Driven Development principles. I also did a lot of dev-ops work helping setup and maintain local development and test environments for the teams I worked in.

Worked with Harkable to produce two responsive campaign sites for their client IGN. In addition prototyped an HTML 5 canvas meme generator. Work was carried out using PHP, Fabric.js and the CodeIgniter framework.

Led development of Wolff Olins’ new website for their executive training brand Kitchen. The work was carried out using the Laravel PHP MVC framework and included integrations with the Eventbrite, MailChimp and Google Maps APIs. In addition the site included a Less powered responsive front-end build.

Worked for Marketing Service Provider as a Support Analyst Programmer.Role involved maintaining and developing VB.Net based Email Delivery Tool. Work completed includes developing social share tools, heat maps, A-B split tool, and integration with the Litmus App tool suite. Other duties include building ad-hoc VB and C# based websites and data capture tools; Training clients on use of email tools, email deliverability and implementation of API services in both .Net and PHP; and regularly give technical presentations within staff meetings.Main achievements include: leading re-design of email delivery tool; initiating development of social media tools; and development of campaign management tools for the Gondola Group (Pizza Express, Zizzi, Ask).

Worked for Email Service Provider as Production Consultant/Trainer. Work involved designing and building HTML emails; Microsite development; creating automated email management systems; and maintaining SQL databases. Role also included training clients on email tools, design best practice, data segmentation and deliverability. Main achievements include: helping develop MailPerformance’s new corporate website; received e-Consultancy training; and help Endsleigh Insurance develop their new automated email system.
