Key responsibilities: Manage and optimize all processes to deliver quality sunflower, sorghum and maize field trials This includes:• Supervision and reporting on the land preparation, scouting, spray operations, top dressing and harvest of all breeding trials. • Coordination and verification of various activities among different crops and sites, leading to good trait data collection to inform breeding decisions. • Summarizing trial execution and traits through collected data and reporting this to the station manager. • Take a leadership role in the implementation of new standard operating procedures to guarantee an organized and functional regional trial network. • Provide the Station Manager with accurate, high-quality data and be able to demonstrate it’s quality through simple statistical analysis. After approval, make data available for further analysis via internal breeding software. • Lead a team of technicians and provide them with guidance and mentoring so they can deliver high quality field trials. • Collaborate internal teams and vendors to ensure seamless trial execution. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on trial program and addressing any pressing issues immediately. • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities• Supporting the NSPP veg crop manager by learning the selection criteria of the breeding programs.• Oversee plant material growth and reacting to issues with plant growth e.g. pests and diseases, cold room conditions together with other NSPP technicians in the team.• Timely execution of all operations for the development new lines, conventional lines and hybrids, including sowing, plant morphology recording, field observations, plant and ear selection and pollination, harvest and threshing, label production and data collection, shipment preparation together with logistic department.• Proficiently use of all NSPP related software used in the planning and management of the nursery program.• Coordinate and execute the tissue sampling of various material in readiness for marker testing in our molecular marker lab.• Efficiently allocates tasks to the workers based on capabilities and competencies to secure efficient and cost-effective delivery of our promise to the customers.• Effectively communicate and liaise on a regular basis with NSPP crop manager, other technicians, and breeders, on the status of activities.• Ensure all projects and especially the Tomato GSPP certified program is run accurately and meets production and quality targets agreed with breeders.• Supports the attainment and sustenance of the GSPP/Syngenta QMS accreditations for the GSPP section and the non-GSPP section within the R&D site respectively.• Always ensures compliance to phytosanitary/Hygiene protocols within the site.• Perform all tasks in compliance with and in support of all HSE policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses and taking lead in submitting safety observations/Near misses for remediation.

Role purpose• To develop experience and knowledge of the basic skills associated with plant phytopathology, crop protection, and irrigation & plant nutrition, greenhouse climate management as well as quality management systems (QMS).• To support the R&D Crop managers in quality management systems (QMS) GSPP/ISO and other quality audits.• Oversight of the dealings and relationship with the local NPPO in support of the site, and collaboration with Quality teams elsewhere within Syngenta.Accountabilities• Supporting the crop managers to grow healthy plants by ensuring fertigation, disease and pest management are timely to achieve their various crop breeding program goals.• Plan and monitor the efficiency of crop treatment with CP/Bio products and ensure actions are taken when deviations occur.• Plan and execute GH/growing area climate management, monitoring and prompt data collection and sharing with relevant teammates for timely decision making.• Train the scouts and the general workforce on scouting and simple disease, pest and weeds identification techniques and maintain training records.• Ensure and oversee regular training and proficient testing of scouts and spray operators.• Ensure execution of laboratory tests/investigations on plant tissue/soil/seed and water to help in disease diagnosis.• Ensure records of inspections, scouting reports, crop treatment, irrigation and feeding, seed health, audits and risk assessments are kept properly in easily retrievable formats and locations and are reviewed per procedure or when need arises.• Oversee preparation for and execution of quality and system audits, follow up and closure of any gaps/non-conformities and organizes sharing of learnings and best practices within and between sites.• Oversight and coordinate the Kenya Plant Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) support to the site.• Ensure the Tomato GSPP programme is run strictly per protocol to maintain accreditation status.
