Robert L. Arellano is a retired USAID Foreign Service Officer withextensive professional development experience. He grew up in Miami, Floridawhere he received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializingin finance and a Bachelor (BA) degree in accounting both from the Universityof Miami.After a career in the corporate banking sector, Mr. Arellano joined theForeign Service in 2001 as Financial Management Officer. His final assignmentwas Director of the Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) Bureau Office ofRegional Sustainable Development. As a senior technical and policy advisor,he managed operations and strategic planning for LAC’s technical servicesoffice, an operating unit administering a $220M portfolio covering theenvironment, energy, health, education, economic growth, agriculture, andgovernance sectors. In addition, Mr. Arellano also served in various capacitiesincluding Controller and was responsible for financial management operationsof the bilateral foreign assistance programs in several countries and regionsincluding South Africa, Haiti, Colombia, Zambia, Iraq, Honduras, the Republicof Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. His portfolio included budget oversight,accounting, financial analysis, audit management and reporting, payroll andpersonnel management. Furthermore, as a member of USAID/Caucasus'Senior Management Team, Mr. Arellano was acting Deputy Mission Directorfor the Regional Mission in Georgia during an extended period. He workedwith the inter-agency in countering Kremlin influence and supportedGeorgia’s democratic, free-market, Western-oriented transformation byfostering Georgia’s Association Agreement with the EU and NATOintegration.Mr. Arellano is married to Carolina Arellano and has three daughters Andrea,Ana-Sofia and Raquel. They currently live in Orlando, Florida next to WaltDisney World “the Most Magical Place on Earth”.
