I am a software engineer for SoundThinking, Inc, which I co-founded (as "ShotsSpotter") in 2003 with Bob Showen and Jason Dunham. Currently, I lead a team that develops the back-end of SoundThinking's "ShotSpotter" gunshot location system. I hold eight US patents, seven of which are in the area of gunshot detection and location.Software specialties: signal processing; acoustic analysis; gunshot forensics; numerical optimization; machine learning / machine classification; LabView; C; Python; SQL Server; embedded Linux including kernel development; secure IoT; AWS. I'm a proponent of using AWS "managed services" over roll-your-own, largely because of the seamless integration with AWS IAM security. (The scalability is nice too, but that's not as hard as doing security right.)From my former life as a Materials Engineer: mechanical/material engineering: material selection; enclosure design; corrosion analysis/prevention; metals and metal-matrix composites; magnetic materials. Interestingly, my while my electroplating patent (US5883762A) was never used in the HDD industry, it has been extensively cited by those developing the Damascene process for copper interconnects in semiconductors. Glad it was useful!I will be living in Washington, DC from 28 Aug 2023 to 30 June 2024.
Listed skills include Labview, Software Engineering, Signal Processing, Microsoft Sql Server, and 11 others.
