Gearing up for another academic year in the Biology group of the Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University. Ongoing research projects include rethinking the Reference Condition Approach (RCA) to bioassessment of lakes and rivers (monograph coming soon!), taking a fresh look at decades of lake data collected by community scientists with the Kawartha Lake Stewards Association, and the Freshwater Missions TAPER project in Scugog and Canal lakes. Teaching in 2024-2025 will include Two-eyed Seeing in the Natural Sciences, Sustainability Fundamentals, the Economics & Politics of the Environment, and gradStats. Also excited to present a non-credit course “Quantitative Analysis for Environmental Professionals”, in February 2025. I’m having a great time being the UPD (Undergraduate Program Director) of Biology and our new Bachelor of Arts & Science in Sustainability. Service to my broader academic and non-academic community includes working with great colleagues as Secretary Treasurer of the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS) and Vice-Chair of the Kawartha Lake Stewards Association.
