As well as developing my knowledge to promote IWC Schaffhausen, I used my background and qualifications in gemmology to teach other staff jewellery knowledge and improve the overall level of jewellery education in store.

My role was primarily purchasing, including: authenticating and inspecting condition, negotiating margins taking a range of purchasing factors into account such as condition, supply and demand and turnaround time. Luxury brands included: Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Breitling, Tag Heuer, JLC, IWC, Panerai, AP, A. Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Grand Seiko.

As Nomos Ambassador, I commanded impressive sales with extensive brand knowledge, Chinese social media for clientelling and boldly introducing the brand into watch consultations. I also consistently utilised Mandarin to achieve a high volume of Longines and Tissot sales.

I provided engagement and fine jewellery consultancy, alongside luxury silver jewellery sales. Utilising expert product knowledge and personalised sales strategies, I effectively utilised clientelling to ensure a loyal and repeat set of clients and exceed sales targets.

I utilised my Mandarin Chinese skills to establish a rapport with Chinese clients and sell them luxury clothing and premium leather goods. I further developed my understanding of the Chinese consumer’s perception of British products and ‘Made in England’.

I used Mandarin Chinese to overcome language barriers, establish a rapport and maximise sales, particularly of products ‘Made in England’, including high value fine bone china sales. I processed a large amount of tax refunds and assisted colleagues by interpreting, as well as provided general information about the Royal Family and Buckingham Palace.

Being a student ambassador at the University of Manchester, I accompanied the foreign students, mainly Chinese nationals, on their off-campus visits and tours to museums, galleries and cities of cultural interest such as Liverpool and York. My role was partly to increase the students’ understanding of the academic system of the United Kingdom, as well as report and help overcome academic problems and partly to increase the students’ awareness about British culture. I was responsible for providing answers to the students’ questions about the academic system of the UK, the University of Manchester and the UK in general. In addition to utilising my Mandarin language skills it was also necessary to employ good interpersonal skills to relate to the students and gain their confidence and trust. I had a duty of care to students which involved me in seeking out medical assistance when individuals required it.

In my first sales role, I achieved a high volume of timepiece, diamond and coloured gemstone sales, as well as developing a foundational knowledge of the world of jewellery.

I was motivated to take up this voluntary role due to my interest in working in public service and desire to help other people. As a volunteer on the GMFRS Community Action Team my main responsibilities included working as a member of an effective team, engaging with members of the public so that they would understand the importance of signing up for free Home Fire Risk Assessments (HFRAs) and then undertaking these assessments in people’s homes. Administrative skills and adherence to the Data Protection Act were both required for this role, as well as high levels of responsibility entering vulnerable people’s property and ensuring their safety.
