My role supported the Charging, Access and Arrangements team; which ensures the users of Great Britain’s electricity network receive fair transmission charges for access to a secure, reliable connection. This involved analysing the legal framework the System Operator uses for determining the transmission network charges that network users should receive.I took the opportunity in the second part of my placement to work with the Level Playing Field team in the Future Role of the System Operator programme. Working in the Level Playing Field team required me to help provide analysis for addressing distortions that the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets had identified in the energy market; ensuring that there is a level playing field for different types of network users.

My voluntary experience at the Children’s Society in Warwick has helped me to develop my communication skills by interacting with customers on a weekly basis. Some of my responsibilities included sorting and evaluating donated items to select the products which were the highest quality. I was also entrusted to set up eye-catching displays in the window, which developed my awareness of choosing the most appropriate products to attract a particular target audience.
