Software Engineering Consultant (6 month contract) at the Massachusetts state lottery. Design/Development of to print packing slips and mailing labels for orders. Additionally, demonstrated the use of Latex to generate the packing slips. In order to demonstrate how to configure other systems to compile latex code, I demonstrated this using docker to mimic production systems.

This was a short term contract position working for GE Power Systems/Vernova helping to port and debug a set of utilities used for Engineering Design Automation for designing steam trubines. These utilities were being ported from SunOS to RHEL and to a newer version of the compiler and were written in C, C++, Perl, Fortran. Most interacted with an Oracle database using SQL.As this set of tools has been under development since the mid 1970's, it is written using several different versions of fortran (F77, F90, F95), C (K&R, ANSI, C99) and C++.

Worked on the Mass Open Cloud project which is working towards an open-source production capable deployment of cloud services for use by the academical community. This cloud services are provided using OpenShift and OpenStack. I worked on multiple projects related to cloud servicesSome example projects were:1) work involved deploying and administrating OpenShift clusters (a Kubernetes distribution) on VMs (from our OpenStack) and on bare metal Power9.2) Assied projects in using the OpenSthift cluster. For example, figuring out how to build a project based on OCAML and its dependencies within a container to deploy on kubernetes.3) Evaluated and worked with several packages to gather data used for invoicing and show back to customers.Technology used: Python(Django/Celery/Flask), Databases(Postgres, MySQL, Mariadb), Kubernetes (OpenShift), Docker, OpenStack, C, C++, Ocaml, Go, JavaScript.

Worked as an onsite consultant, leading part of an offshore team, at a First Data. I was developing and supporting a distributed transaction processing engine. This application had multiple processes, communication though sockets and/or shared memory and was deployed across multiple data centers in order to achieve high availability and fault tolerance. This engine processed approximately 80% of the gift cards in the US, and a significant number of international cards.Actively participated in all stages of the software development lifecycle. The client followed an iterative lifecycle model. Projects involved enhancing security features, adding new features that the business could sell, as well as general maintenance and support.This application was implemented in C/C++, SQL, Pro*C, Perl and shell scripts with ORACLE as the database. Additionally, I provided technical leadership to a group of 12 offshore developers.

Developed a web-based application using Perl and MySQL, which presented, collected, stored and scored on-line psychological tests. Additional utilities developed using Perl and SAS were used to distribute data for data analysis.As a member of a small IT team, my duties had also involved system administration (Linux and MAC), database administration (MySQL) and tech support. This team supported the research efforts of a research group at the University of Pennsylvania and provided resources to the research community.Example projects were:Refactored and redesigned the file upload processes to enable more code reuse and to simplify the process that non-technical personal used to upload data to a central database. This was crucial to enable successful completion of several grants which involved the upload of approximately 10,000 sessions while losing only 5 due to system crashes and people not following the streamlined process.Initial design, development and maintenance of a reporting system. The goals here were to simplify the report generation process. Before this there was a minimal reporting system that had severe limitations in terms of quantity of data that could be exported at a time, as well as being extraordinarily difficult to setup. After development, there were 2 basic ways to export data. One was through a GUI to define reports and to get data. The second was to specify the reports through the GUI and a command line process could be run to export the data.Designed and created a working prototype test using Xcode to demonstrate: 1) Cross platform development 2) Running an example psychological test on mobile devices as well as laptops 3) Adaptive testing of subjects 4) Test Driven Development Tools used: MySQL, SQL, Perl, CGI, HTML/DHTML, Mac OSX, Linux, Apache, SAS, R, Objective C, C/C++, iOS.

Designed, built and tested Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) devices, concentrating on micro-NMR devices and applications.Developed processes to fabricate devices principally using clean room and thin film techniques such as, development of masks, pattern generation, contact photo lithography, electron beam evaporation of metals, deep reactive ion etching and electroplating. Other techniques that were used in fabricating and packaging were dicing, laser ablation micro machining and lapping.

Optimization of software that summarized data for daily/weekly/monthly reporting on financial information concerning EZ-Pass. The daily run times when form 26 hours to 5 minutes. This project entailed multiple systems and databases. Programming was done in C using embedded SQL and ORACLE RDB.

Development of 24/7 Connect, 24/7 Media's ad server. Responsible for implementing part of the user interface and for redesigning and implementing an inventory management server which would predict the behavior of web users based on historical data in order to assist in building an optimized schedule for serving ads. The user interface was implemented using PHP, SQL, HTML/DHTML/JavaScript and an ORACLE database. The inventory management server was being implemented in PRO*C and C/C++ as a multi-threaded server running under UNIX (Sun Solaris).

Support and development of client/server, GUI design and development, and software used to control video devices. Projects involved porting PC applications to more recent versions of the compiler and operating system, prototyping/design/development of a web based interface to image data stored on a computer receiving the data from a satellite feed, adding a Spanish language capability to an established product.Programming was done using Microsoft Visual C++ and MFC. Equipment interfaced with were a Chyron Codi, Grass Valley 10x1 video switch and several common modems.

Tech support and programming in C of Lint, a static checker of C, and supporting utilities. This involved answering technical questions concerning the use of Lint, analysis and classification of bugs and answering technical questions concerning the C/C++ programming languages with respect to the ANSI standards.Tools used: K&R C, ANSI C/C++, PC-Lint/Flexelint, MSVC, Borland C++, Watcom C/C++
