About Robert Beal

As the President / Owner of Vantage Geophysical Corporation, I lead a team of professionals who provide geophysical seismic acquisition services for various industry sectors, such as mining, renewable energy, geotechnical engineering, environmental, and petroleum exploration. I have over 38 years of experience in the petroleum exploration industry, with much of my professional career spent in seismic data processing and acquisition.I started my professional career as a seismic data processor, working with some of the largest geophysical companies in the world, processing and imaging data from around the globe. I got the opportunity to see amazing seismic data from all over the world. At some point, I was considering a career change. I had always been very interested in seismic acquisition. In July of 2014, I had the opportunity to shift my career and founded Vantage Geophysical Corp., a company that utilizes the latest node technologies and high-force vibrators to record 2D, 3D, and 4D land seismic data acquisition projects. Our focus is to work closely with our clients and listen to their needs, to be able to deliver customized solutions and high-quality results. Some of the most interesting and recent projects we have been involved with are for shallow hazard seismic projects for engineering firms, CO2 sequestration and hydrogen storage. Our mission is to grow our footprint and expand our services in the geophysical industry. Feel free to contact me and let us know how we can help you.

  • Agile Seismic Llc
    Director Of Operations
Agile Seismic Llc Jul 2009 - Jul 2014
I took on the role of COO at Agile Seismic. My responsibilities covered the operation of the day-to-day activities at Agile Seismic LLC, a processing and imaging technologies company. This position covered a very wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to testing and creating advanced processing and imaging project specific workflows, developing new processing modules, managing daily operations, overseeing computer hardware and software systems, evaluating purchasing recommendations, as well as creating and reviewing all project bids.Last but certainly not least, overseeing and being involved in client interaction on every project.
  • Ion Geophysical
    Sr. Processing Geophysicist
    Ion Geophysical Jun 2005 - Jun 2009
I worked on many 2D and 3D processing and imaging projects at GXT/Ion. One unique project I supervised was the first 2D LandSpan/OBCSpan/GulfSpan merge project. My group and I processed, imaged and merged ~140 SEI/GPI land data 2D lines, RXT acquired 2D OBC transition data, and tied it all with the GXT/Ion acquired GulfSpan 2D marine streamer acquisition data. The Span project created 2D lines that ran from the GOM Mexican/US border, through the state waters, through transition zone and onto land. Initially there were 23 merged 2D lines that were picked to cover an area ranging from south Texas to Florida. These lines were often hundreds of miles in length, from deep water running well into Texas, Oklahoma and many other states. At the time, this was a very unique and greatly important data set to the oil and gas exploration industry. It was at a time when there was a push from deep marine exploration starting to move onshore.
  • El Paso Corp.
    Sr. Processing Geophysicist
    El Paso Corp. 2001 - 2005
    Houston, Texas, United States
At El Paso Corp. I worked pretty much exclusively on reprocessing Fairfield OBC shelf data from field tapes to final PSTM delivery, including pre-stack and post-stack seismic attribute volumes. At the time, El Paso was exploring for the deep shelf gas. I solely processed and PSTM imaged 1000+ contiguous GoM Blocks of Fairfield OBC data. One of my 3D OBC projects over WC 46 block led to a large extension/discovery and was showcased by the President of Exploration and Production for El Paso Corp., to highlight our technological advantage due to our in-house processing and imaging capabilities.
  • Veritas Dgc
    Project Leader
    Veritas Dgc 1996 - 2001
As a project lead at Veritas DGC, I was in charge of a group that primarily processed the Veritas acquired speculative, multi-client Gulf of Mexico 3D marine streamer acquisition projects. These were typically 150-200 GOM blocks of marine streamer data, processed from raw field tapes through final PSTM product deliveries straight to clients like Exxon, Shell, Chevron etc... as well as to our internal data sales department. At times, while running the speculative project I would personally process many proprietary 2D and 3D projects. There was a unique project where I was able to reprocess 4 ultra-high resolution, deep-water pre-drill hazard surveys for Chevron. That data at the time looked amazing... compared to what was standard processing workflow for our speculative data delivery.
  • Digicon Geophysical Corp.
    Processing Geophysicist
    Digicon Geophysical Corp. 1994 - 1996
I began my geophysical career at Digicon Geophysical Corp. while working on an M.S. in Geophysics at the University of Houston (taking night classes). I started out as a junior geophysicist and quickly moved up to being put in charge of my own projects within 3 years.I was initially put in charge of processing small, proprietary 2D and 3D projects but quickly moved to the large, speculative Gulf of Mexico multi-client surveys that were just starting at Digicon.
  • Arben Oil And Gas
    Geologist
    Arben Oil And Gas 1991 - 1993
    Coleman, Texas, United States
Geologist looking to recomplete existing oil and gas inventory to help improve oil and gas production. This consisted of doing subsurface mapping based on well logs. These maps included formation top maps, isopach maps and net porosity maps. These maps were then tied with existing production wells after careful log analysis.During this time, the energy sectors was in a major oil crash. The goal was not necessarily to find new drill sites, it was to find existing/overlooked behind pipe production that could be recompleted with little investment costs.
  • Acculog Mudlogging
    Field Engineer
    Acculog Mudlogging 1987 - 1991
    Brenham, Texas, United States
During college. I worked as an onsite geologist evaluating drill cutting from the Austin Chalk horizontal drilling, in and around College Station area. I was fortunate enough to be studying both Geology and Petroleum engineering all while getting involved in the revolutionary development of horizontal drilling. Our responsibilities included taking drill cutting samples from shale shaker and cleaning those cuttings for analysis and storage. Part of our logging process was to also keep log records of oil and gas shows in the drilling fluids, using gas chromatographs for recording shows while drilling. We also made note of flares and flare sizes, the flares were due to drilling these wells underbalanced. Our analysis of the borehole cuttings included looking for florescence and applying stain testing to the cuttings for oil show in rock matrix. For the Austin Chalk, we were primarily looking to help identify fractures by noting samples with an abundance of calcite crystallization as well as cuttings that had vugs and or fractures present. We created daily reports as well as hand-drawn mudlogs that were sent into client engineers and geologists every morning.
