Aberdeen

I joined Atkins energy as technical director, responsible for structural engineering and design, as well as establishing graduate training schemes. I work 4 day weeks, and usually spend the 5th day on wider training and academic issues.

I joined KBR Production Services in June 2002, which became PSN in 2005, then amalgamated with Wood Group in 2010, to become WGPSN. As chief structural engineer I was responsible for structures across international business units, as well as simultaneously working as lead engineer on Shell Sigma3 project.

I joined Amec on Brent LTFD project in 1992, and worked as technical lead on one of the project teams until 1997, when I moved to Aberdeen HQ. I became chief engineer in 1999, and simultaneously worked on BP projects as technical lead.

Glasgow

I joined Brown & root as lead civil and structural engineer on the Kinneil Terminal Expansion (KTE), a major modularised project for BP Chemicals at Grangemouth Refinery. Responsible for team of 60 engineers and designers.

I joined FW on graduating from Strathclyde University, and spent several happy years on foundation design of major refinery projects. I then transferred to structural engineering, and ran the Glasgow structures team until transferring to BNOC projects support team in 1982, and then a 30 months assignment to Britoil on Clyde Field Development.My last major.

Master'S Degree

In 2008 I was appointed part-time lecturer by Aberdeen University, with a view to co-write an entire MSc syllabus in "Oil & Gas Structural.

I joined ICE in 1979. I established ICE graduate training schemes in WGPSN and Atkins. In 2008 I was awarded ICE "Mentor of the Year".

I became a Member of ISE in 1978, and a Fellow in 1990. I helped to set up Aberdeen & Offshore branch of ISE in 1993, and taught ISE.
