I was facilitating a workshop for newcomer IT professionals at the OCCSC. The workshop’s goals are to provide an environment where the participants can practice and improve their English speaking and writing skills, learn about the Canadian workplace culture, and to work on an actual project for the OCCSC in order for them to gain some Canadian work experience (Project Proposals, Project Solutions, Database Schemas, Webpage development, Test Plans, Deployment Plans, Disaster Recovery Plans). He is also responsible for arranging guest speakers who give presentations on Technical Writing, Project Management, etc.

My friend and I opened our own company and purchased properties which we fixed up and rented ourselved. My partner had the construction and renovation expertise and I was the liason with the Bank, lawyer, Accountant/Book Keeper, City Hall, Tenants. Unfortunatley, he passed away in 2007 and I was forced to close the company at that time. Since I began the proceedings to close the company, I learned a great deal when I had to work with Revenue Canada and the headaches involved in filing the necessary forms, and then them telling me I had to file more forms at regular time intervals.

As a Computer Consultant, I was placed in various companies for contract work in different roles. Primarily, these included ORACLE Software Developer, C Software Developer, Technical Writer, Help Desk/Support, Technical Support, Data Conversion Specialist, Software Integration Testor, Newcomer Trainer, and Technician in the Telecommunications, Insurance, DND, etc. I had to be highly adaptable in order to fit into the different roles and workplace environments. During this time, I held Enhanced and then Secret Level II security clearances.
