Having experienced him as a strategic thinker, MedPIP expert and innovative leader, I'm always impressed with Roberts consistency and how he exemplifies our norms and values. The following 3 areas distinguish him as a leader:
* He is a true professional, even when others become animated or when difficult challenges occur. He has a calming affect on others and is able to create forward momentum with energy. His professional executive presence is a great asset on any leadership team.
*Robert excels at asking questions, both to improve his own understanding and to coach others that he interacts with. He takes a genuine interest in people, learning about them as individuals, providing them with candid feedback and accepting it from them as well. This skill has allowed him to build his personal awareness and excel at emotional intelligence.
*He is incredibly knowledgeable about the business and demonstrates exceptional acumen. He has a unique ability to see the business mechanics, distill them down to their simplest components and make decisions based on understanding the data. He is decisive, always driving forward with an eye toward business outcomes and long term results.
I'm happy to recommend Robert! " and "I worked with Robert at Farmers Insurance for seven years. I watched him move up from the ranks from a staff position to managing a branch claims office to become a director in charge of a nationwide organization. Robert's a "wicked smart" guy who stands out for four qualities:
1) He's a deeply analytical thinker and problem solver. Even in an organization where leaders are expected to "know their businesses," Robert is an outlier. He has an uncanny ability to "connect the dots" between disparate pieces of data. I've seem him sift through the metrics from claims offices of which he was unfamiliar and reach conclusions that were confirmed by leaders who knew the details firsthand.
2) Robert's an agile learner. Robert began his insurance career handling auto claims; he then led an operation that included liability claims handlers; he subsequently ran the Subrogation and Med/PIP operations for Farmers. He's currently in charge of the internal consulting and project management operations. Time and again, he's demonstrated the ability to quickly develop expertise in a new business.
3) Robert's a teacher. When I worked at the University of Farmers, I could always count on Robert to provide subject matter expertise and facilitation for our leadership programs. I got to know him during the pilot of our wildly successful Managers Leadership Development class. Robert had flown out to teach a breakout session, then "hung around" after hours, coaching and mentoring the participants as they worked on their team presentations late into the evening. Robert is amazingly generous of his time in helping his colleagues grow and develop.
4) Robert performs under pressure. Robert was invited to become a student himself in the Advanced Leadership Development program, Farmers' highest level leadership curriculum. This was an intense, two-week course, conducted in the presence of Claims executives, where some of the best and brightest leaders in the Claims operations competed to be ranked in the top third of the class. Participants were assessed using a variety of criteria – everything from speaking ability to teamwork and social awareness to the originality of thought displayed in their class project. It was an high pressure environment. Robert ended up in the top third. As a result of the impression he made, he was offered a director's position, a huge jump from his grade level at the time.
For the above reasons, I really can't recommend Robert highly enough."
