A sideways move to return to project delivery - the bit I always found exciting and the reason I switched from IT all those years ago,

Multi-priority workload, with activities in four key areas:Commercial Management: main contact for existing and prospective clients, delivering ongoing client care and specialist technical support to them for procurement, tendering, and OJEU compliance.Procurement: accountable for the reprocurement of three construction frameworks over a three-year cycle. Compliance Management: managed audits of client’s mini-competitions (framework call off) and subsequent contractor submissions to monitor, audit, and evaluate outcomes of tender processes. Accountable for internal process robustness: filing, archives, database, in preparation for audit - including ERDF.Line Management: Responsible for development of staff and their motivation, managing their performance through setting clear outcome targets, priorities, and monitoring progress, feeding back in regular reviews and 1-2-1’s.

Commercial project support for a wide range of major and minor schemes across Manchester’s estate with personal accountability for financial and contract management and reporting. Engaged and collaborated with a variety of stakeholders and the supply chain to deliver measurable value. Provided full commercial support for pre and post contract (NEC3, JCT DB11, PSPC 6) to internal and external stakeholders, including developing and negotiating new process templates using industry best practice and RICS guidance. Established MCC’s contractual position, negotiated and defended it to Final Account agreement taking into account agreed risk expenditure, change management and disallowed costs, and pain/gain shares.

Seconded to Manchester City Council from August ’06 working on several partnering frameworks. These included the Small Works Framework (0-500k), JV/MTC with Manchester Working (0-75k), Housing Market Renewal Framework, and Framework One (new schools, up to £10m) using PSPC 5, 6, & 10, and NEC2 forms of contract. These schemes gave me a real breadth of experience but also taught me to work economically whilst providing proper scrutiny for the public purse.

This was a part time role to fund my mortgage and other commitments whilst I completed my degree, which in turn facilitated my career change. The role included discussing, amending and proposing technical solutions, clarifying customer requirements, raising quotations, processing orders, clarifying and resolving customer queries, developing customer relationships, and other activities for first line customer contact.
