Renewable energy boosts tribal sovereignty and, at the same time, lessens environmental change.This course will join tribal leaders acrossNorth America interested in leading their community's change from fossil fuels to renewable energy. New laws provide money for energy and climate projects (the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act) and the recent establishment of tribal energy development organizations; this course will look at the many paths to changing tribal energy reliance on fossil fuels.Bob Blake, a tribal citizen of Red Lake Nation and founder of Solar Bear and Native Sun Community Power Development, and Gabe Chan in the Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy Area at the Humphrey school, will lead the course.Following the semester, an optional week-long field experience from May 15 - 19 is available.
