CurrentThere is something to be said about having an eye for the minute details. To be able to flip a switch and see things globally is something entirely different. This is the crux of what I do at the Board of Elections.I am an Americans with Disabilities Act compliance officer. Precision is expected of me, as the difference between compliance and noncompliance can come down to a fraction of an inch. If you are abreast of ADA compliance though, you will recognize that understanding the guidelines of the legislation is nothing remarkable. You can learn everything there is to know about the 1991 and 2004 ADA guidelines in a single book over the course of an afternoon. The factor that separates my job from thousands of others is the sheer scope. Most election boards throughout the country serve a single county. The Board of Elections in the City of New York serves five of the most densely populated counties in the country. This amounts to over 1,200 poll sites which must be fully accessible to all voters.Some of my duties include leading a team on various post election projects, preparing reports for legal review, training new hires, and broadly ensuring a fair and dignified voting experience for voters with disabilities.
