New Forest National Park

I worked alongside another intern independently to plan, carry out and report upon a wide range of ecological surveys as key part of the ‘Our Past Our Future’ project led by the New Forest National Park Authority.A large component of the internship involved the field identification of UK native vascular plants (as well as a select few invasive species) in addition to the use of heterodyne bat detector hardware and bat analysis software.

Worked under the instruction of experienced ecologists to conduct bat surveys on potentially inhabited buildings and buildings due for development. Required to monitor buildings for unbroken periods of time, to establish the presence of bats and note details on species and activity using advanced bat detectors.

Required to respond to rapidly changing, high pressure situations either as a member, or a leader of a team, often flexibly with minimal or no sleep during training weekends.Completed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Military Leadership Training Module 1. A key emphasis on leadership, control and management was enforced throughout the year's training. Other aspects of training involved values and standards of the British Army, first-aid and adventurous sports.

Responsible for multiple lanes of swimmers of varying ability and age group. Required to plan sessions and teach basic swimming technique to beginners in addition to coaching competitive swimmers and adults.
