As juniors in high school, two friends and I started a non-profit summer surf camp called Special Waves Special Children where we taught special needs children how to surf free of charge. I learned many important skills in the process of creating a surf camp/organization from scratch. As the leading fundraiser, I applied for grants and organized a crowdfunding page to raise capital to ensure the camp was free for the children. We discussed partnerships with local special needs groups to find children to work with as well as partnering with preexisting surf camps to use their infrastructure.
