Worked for Hi-School Pharmacy Services here in Vancouver, WA for almost 23 years. During my tenure there I have learned many skills and knowledge from the duties I performed over the years. When I first got hired out of college, like everybody starting out, I was at the bottom rung of the IT department. Duties included PC building and repairing, as well as call support for the 20+ stores we had. Made sure I stuck my nose to the grindstone and helped the company through its historical changes. We removed ourselves from the local community due to competition from other pharmacy chains, but we expanded our stores into multiple states with small town pharmacies. The IT department also changed as we added on more stores but with less support staff. Added duties such as disk imaging for security, moving physical servers to VM's, and cost analysis of the hardware we already supported.As the years went by our stores grew but the IT staff got smaller. We ended up with 5 people supporting 30+ locations and 500+ PC's, printers, phones, and 5 different POS systems. That's when management came to me and asked I look into doing EDI in house. We had been using an outside 3PL company to handle our EDI transactions. There was issues with the 3PL being very slow and costing us thousands of dollars each month with very little to show. I took on the project and within 3 months had presented to management the costs involved if we stayed with the 3PL vs the costs if we brought it in house. Clearly the prices show a huge cut in costs if we did in fact do that. So, for the last 6+ years I have been in charge of EDI connections between 250+ pharmacies and 90+ drug vendors all at a substantial cost savings. I learned with working for the same company for almost 23 years that it comes down to having dedication, time management, planning, above all else excellent communication skills.
