About Robert Bruegmann

Robert Bruegmann is an historian of architecture, landscape, urbanism and the built environment. He has published extensively in these fields in magazines and books. Among his books are the three-volume Illustrated Catalog of the work of Chicago Architects Holabird & Roche/ Holabird & Root, Garland Publishing Company, 1991, (Editor) Modernism at Mid-Century: The Architecture of the US Air Force Academy, University of Chicago Press, 1994.The Architects and the City: The Work of Holabird and Roche of Chicago 1880-1919, University of Chicago Press, 1997 which won the Spiro Kostof award of the Society of Architectural Historians, Sprawl: A Compact History, University of Chicago Press, 2005 and The Architecture of Harry Weese, W W Norton, 2010. Since 1977 he has been at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he is currently Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art History, Architecture and Urban Planning. He has also taught at the Philadelphia College of the Arts, Philadelphia Community College, MIT and Columbia University.
