About Robert Schoedel

In April 2022, Cameron joined Motorola Solutions, stepping in to stabilize a problematic rollout of 850 Azure SQL databases. By creating a strategy, adopting best practices, applying query tuning, concisely applying indexes, and scaling appropriately, Cameron stabilized the system. This work allowed the business to grow to the current 2300 databases in a stable and supportable manner. Cameron's research into Azure SQL Elastic Pools led to the adoption of this technology in early 2024 for all new customers, and the scheduled migration of existing customers from standalone Azure SQL databases. The SQL Elastic Pools outperformed standalone database for this application, but also resulted in a major cost reduction win for the business, with annual savings estimated at $800K / year. Before Motorola, Cameron oversaw database development on large new pharmacy management system at RedSail Technologies. Having created the transactional coding patterns as well as deployment components for dozens of microservice databases, Cameron also contributed to the business intelligence components.Prior to RedSail, Cameron developed high performance data solutions for SkillSoft to support their cloud-based learning management systems with over 6000 subscribing companies. Prior to SkillSoft, Cameron served as the Senior Database Architect for IDI Billing Solution. In addition to researching and resolving complex database performance issues, Cameron developed best practices for SQL Server database development, including data modeling, data movement, data partitioning and T-SQL coding. At Microsoft, Cameron worked in development roles ranging from individual contributor to second-tier management across several groups including Entertainment and Devices, OEM, and Certified Partner, creating both transactional and reporting systems. In addition to development, Cameron spent 4 years teaching software processes, coaching teams, and presenting improvement results in Redmond, India, Singapore, and China. Cameron holds a bachelors degree in Math and Computer Science from Whitman College. Outside of work, Cameron practices meditation and helps maintain a large garden.Specialties: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, tuning, optimization, architecture, integration, replication, ELT/ETL, large databases
