I run an academic research group in polymer chemistry at the University of Newcastle. I hold a concurrent adjunct lectureship at UNSW (School of Chemistry).My research focusses on the development of high throughput controlled polymerization systems and on their use to design multivalent polymer-peptide conjugates for protein binding applications. Key applications include designing synthetic protein mimics for clustering receptor proteins to control cell outcomes, and the stabilization of enzymes within single enzyme nanoparticles.I teach into both organic and materials chemistry streams.I have worked with a range of industrial partners on:- Waste Water treatment with Sydney Water (2019-present)- Point of care diagnostics with Mologic UK (2012-15)- As an Associate consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (2008-09)- As a practicum student with BASF AG (Ludwigshaven, 2006)- As a cooperative scholar at UNSW (~1.5 years of internships in 4 chemical companies)I have expertise in polymer and peptide chemistry and self-assembly, tissue engineering, and nanoparticle based biosensing.
