My new book, “Just Right: How Neutral Driven Resolution Can Close the Gap in American Civil Justice,” seeks to disrupt the traditional way of settling common legal and business disputes. It’s the culmination of my 40-year career in litigation and business where I ultimately learned that the American system of civil justice is broken. It’s too time consuming, too costly, and rarely provides real justice for everyone involved. My solution: Neutral Driven Resolution (NDR), an innovative method of resolving low-stakes business and legal disputes without all the legal hassle, cost, and aggravation. I’m hoping readers of my book will be moved to join me in spreading the word of this simple and practical path to civil justice, one that alleviates the stress, distractions and absurd costs of our current system. As an AV Preeminent litigation and trial attorney, I served as Nor Cal Managing Partner of Northern California branch of international law firm Coudert Brothers, and litigation Counsel with Hopkins & Carley specializing in commercial, antitrust and intellectual property disputes. I was a successful lead trial attorney in major jury cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, and I’m an experienced neutral arbitrator, mediator and settlement judge pro term.Throughout my legal career, I struggled against a gap in the American civil justice system related to limited stakes cases. To address this and deliver real justice at a fair cost, I developed NDR, neutral-driven non-adversarial dispute resolution process (NDR). My company, Just Resolve (www.justresolve.com) offers and champions NDR to resolve disputes for small business, corporations and individuals, and supports attorneys in their use of NDR to address limited stakes cases. I am also General Counsel to our family-owned Christopher Ranch LLC in Gilroy, California, the nation’s leading producer of garlic, where I have used NDR to address numerous client, supplier and employee disputes. As a speaker at UC Davis, Vistage, ACC and many leadership conferences, I use my experience as an amateur actor, attorney and passion for NDR to ensure my speeches, workshops and podcast appearances are entertaining as well as informative.
