Since I was about 5 years old, I knew my passion was math. I won county wide and school wide awards for my performance in mathematics and the sciences all throughout middle and high school; which is why I received a degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics. Unexpectedly I found a second passion other than Mathematics my first year at UF, it was sales. While taking rigorous, proof-based math courses, both graduate and undergraduate level, I went and sold with Southwestern Advantage every summer I was in college and now I work as a corporate recruiter for the summer program at the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of South Florida. During the summer, we work 80+ hours a week in a different area of the country and are in charge of all aspects of our business. This has taught me how to set goals effectively, follow through with them, prioritize my time effectively, as well as how communicate effectively to all different kinds of people. I have always enjoyed teaching people and helping them grow and achieve their goals. In high school and even in college I have tutored students in both formal (in school) and informal settings, and later in life I aspire to be a college lecturer for applied mathematics. This is why I love my job as a recruiter now because every day I am doing presentations, meeting new students, and motivating them towards their goals all while seeing if they are a good fit for our summer program. Also, I get to develop a close relationship with the students I work with as I train them for our program over the summer, which all works towards my end goal as a professor because I want to do the same thing with my students in the future. Before I become a professor, I would like to learn more applied mathematics in a graduate program or a job so I can hopefully find a career that combines my two passions of math and people.
