Provided technical assistance, data acquisition and reporting to the Commercial Lines Actuarial department. The department provides tools, analysis and guidance to underwriting and operations for all product lines.Key Highlights:● Reverse engineered an existing worker’s compensation Excel pricing model to extract key actuarial concepts and methodology to share with the department; and reorganized the model to be maintainable.● Executed and validated the quarterly renewal scoring model.● Rewrote the renewal scoring model for automation using a combination SAS, Excel calculation engines/raters, Teradata, Oracle and VBA scripting. The raters are organized so that it will be easy to understand for common people and still remain actuarially accurate.● Initially, I developed Excel user interface for underwriting to utilize the raters. These were replaced, when I developed web applications to use these raters, instead. This is an ASP.NET application that makes Interop calls to Excel that launches and runs on Windows servers; with an Oracle database. These are collectively called Pricing Tools that provides guidance to underwriters for Worker’s Comp, Auto and GL.● Needing to reduce multiple user inputs from multiple systems, I enhanced the application to make SOAP calls to an enterprise web service that returns an ACORD xml schema.● Filled in the communication gaps between actuarial, business and IT to arrive at a relevant product. I regularly participate in business requirement gathering, development and testing.● Provided in-depth data extraction and modelling from source systems if information is not available in data warehouse for reporting and analysis by both actuaries and BI staff. Aside from the dataset, I often provided the scripts and documentation to the receiving party so that they can recreate the dataset and use it as requirement when it is time to add it to the data warehouse.

The role also included assisting with IT engagement to close the language gap and produce accurate business requirements.Key Highlights:● Collaborated with actuaries to develop various Excel rating engines that are used to rate and price health benefit plans.● Developed and supported a data collection facility in MS Access and Sql Server to store the iterative results when testing raters against a big population of cases.● Developed and supported custom Excel applications for underwriting and sales. These tools range from comparing benefit plans to producing interactive executive decks that illustrates plan performance and adoption.● Developed an automated tool that can be used by non-technical person to configure parameters to run against the pricing engines and produced the pricing matrix for a 3rd-party vendor that administered Cigna Choice Fund web application.● Collaborated with actuaries to develop the stop loss tool. This tool prices reinsurance for the self-insured and smaller insurance providers. It is an Excel application that has rater, user interface and database back-end. This is the only tool in the enterprise that provides pricing, claim and policy admin for this product line.

The applications included technologies from mainframe, midrange servers and client desktops.Key Highlights:● Developed and supported client/server MS SQL/VB applications used for rate and price: Baseline, BOB, Manual Rate, BAWS and Healthsource Integration. This application has a batch synchronization procedure back to mainframe DB2.● Developed and supported a parameter maintenance VB application that directly interacts with CICS to update information in DB2.● Quantified and qualified both business and IT personnel’s roles and responsibilities by performing in-depth interviews and produced an executive deck for management.● Developed valuable system tools that collected DB2 environment details; compared stored procedures; and cataloged programs.● Managed contractors and employees during the PCP optional project, which touched 80% of Cobol/DB2 programs.● Converted jobs from running Cobol programs into using data extract and transformation utilities to save on maintenance cost.● Redesigned the mainframe job flow documentation for ease of reading and overall visual appeal. This became the new template required by IT operations.● Created a REXX scripts to convert enterprise production jobs into test during the Y2K remediation.● Tuned existing inline SQL in Cobol programs by rewriting the query or suggesting index changes.

This included credit card operations of affiliate banks, like Bank of America, Commerce Bank, and other local and international banks. The bank issues Visa and Mastercard, but also acquires Discover, Diner’s Club and American Express. Key Highlights:● Designed and developed the first modern looking statements utilizing graphics features of mainframe laser printer provided with the IBM ADJUST software.● Designed and developed the “first of its kind” mainframe to PC client/server real-time statement printing through a bank teller. This involved creating CICS programs communicating with a Turbo Pascal client communicating through HHLAPI.● Supported and maintained compliance with Visa and Mastercard data transmission standards.● Developed a domestic interchange system and standard for issuers and acquirers; bypassing Visa and Mastercard.● Redesigned the sales slip data entry system to optimize key entry while maintaining intuitiveness for new personnel. Equitable was a provider for international companies that outsource their credit card sale slip data entry needs.● Enhanced the Fraud Monitoring software that runs on AIX and Informix that requires modification of programs written in C.● Installed and managed the departments Novell LAN.
