The department provides tools, analysis and guidance to underwriting and operations for all product lines.Key Highlights:● Reverse engineered an existing worker’s compensation Excel pricing model to extract key actuarial concepts and methodology to share with the department; and reorganized the model to be maintainable.● Executed and validated the quarterly renewal scoring model.● Rewrote the renewal scoring model for automation using a combination SAS, Excel calculation engines/raters, Teradata, Oracle and VBA scripting. The raters are organized so that it will be easy to understand for common people and still remain actuarially accurate.● Initially, I developed Excel user interface for underwriting to utilize the raters. These were replaced, when I developed web applications to use these raters, instead. This is an ASP.NET application that makes Interop calls to Excel that launches and runs on Windows servers; with an Oracle database. These are collectively called Pricing Tools that provides guidance to underwriters for Worker’s Comp, Auto and GL.● Needing to reduce multiple user inputs from multiple systems, I enhanced the application to make SOAP calls to an enterprise web service that returns an ACORD xml schema.● Filled in the communication gaps between actuarial, business and IT to arrive at a relevant product. I regularly participate in business requirement gathering, development and testing.● Provided in-depth data extraction and modelling from source systems if information is not available in data warehouse for reporting and analysis by both actuaries and BI staff. Aside from the dataset, I often provided the scripts and documentation to the receiving party so that they can recreate the dataset and use it as requirement when it is time to add it to the data warehouse.
