Since joining Meridian Lawyers as a Principal in our Sydney office in November 2014, I have practised in insurance law and litigation, with a focus on public and products liability and professional indemnity insurance and have acted in many high profile insurance cases. My clients are both local and overseas underwriters, particularly Lloyd’s Syndicates and others in the London insurance market and I advise insurers, brokers, underwriting agents and insured parties as well as providing risk management advice to clients in the sports, leisure and construction industries. With more than 25 years’ experience, previous large class actions I have acted in include the CSN action (farm machinery) and the Cash Converters action (pay day lending). I also acted for a large law firm in relation to a high profile claim brought by John Symond/Aussie Home Loans arising out of tax advice. My focus on construction liability has led to my involvement in many large construction cases for both liability and professional indemnity insurers. Recently I acted for the professional indemnity insurers of an architectural firm arising out of the collapse of a grandstand at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. With considerable experience in the rail and infrastructure area, I acted for the London market insurers of Railcorp in relation to the Waterfall rail disaster as well as the Baan Baa and Breeza derailment claims. I actively engage with the insurance industry as a New South Wales Board Member and Chair of the Liaison Sub-Committee for the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) and as a member of the Product Liability Law Association. I also sit on the editorial panel of the Australian Civil Liability journal published by Lexis Nexis.
