Dr. Robert Cook earned his doctorate in Chemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1967. He then joined Union Carbide as a research chemist in their laboratories in Bound Brook, New Jersey. In 1968 he left North America to become an assistant professor of chemistry at the American University of Beirut. After 16 years in Beirut he returned to Canada on sabbatical where he taught and carried on with his research at the University of Toronto. He then joined in the fall of 1986 the chemistry department at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. At Bishop’s he served in sequence as a professor of chemistry, departmental chair, Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and then Vice President of the university. In 1999 he returned to the Middle East and was appointed as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. In 2006 he took over new responsibilities as Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. In the fall of 2007 he accepted the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Gulf University for Science and Technology in Kuwait, a position he held until August 2013.After 45 years in post-secondary education, 30 of them in the Middle East or the Gulf, Dr. Cook has now decided to put this vast experience to use as a Higher Education Consultant.
