I was responsible for managing and delivering the technical safety studies and documentation, managing change throughout the engineering, procurement and construction phases, managing risk and ensuring control measures were actioned etc. As the project transitioned to the offshore execution phase my experience in construction and commissioning was leveraged to support the installation of the MDU, associated support equipment and all required platform upgrades/modifications. I was initially onshore during the engineering and procurement stages but mobilised offshore during the construction (rig-up) phase to coordinate the cross functional teams, liaise with the client platform management and ensure safe execution of the 25,000 manhour construction and commissioning plan. Supported the submission of a multimillion pound decommissioning tender which pertained to the destruct of the existing drilling equipment set, modification of drilling support systems and installation of a modular drilling rig for the plug and abandonment of the platform wells. Utilising my extensive experience I was able to provide technical and commercial input into the tender and positively highlight the unique selling point of the submission.

The project scope pertained to the destruct and removal of the drilling module (derrick, substructure and subbase). Responsible for executing a diverse portfolio of medium to large brownfield projects. Key responsibilities included; defining/agreeing work scopes with the client (BP) and Operations (KCAD), providing technical input to design solutions to ensure they met the clients/Operations requirements, HAZID/HAZOP management, risk and change management, reporting on progress, cost and schedule control, ensuring all phases of the project were closed out and accepted.

Located in the SPS fabrication yard in Baku for the construction and commissioning and then offshore for the hook-ups of Central Azeri, West Azeri, East Azeri and Deep Water Gunashli platforms. Successfully managed a culturally diverse team of technicians, with support from specialist OEM vendors, to commission multiple drilling systems/equipment across the four new build drilling platforms and ensured Operations expectations were met at handover.

Mechanical Commissioning Engineer during the detailed design phase of the ACG Central Azeri platform. I was responsible for generating the commissioning procedures for assigned systems; HP mud, LP mud, mud mix and transfer, mud treatment, seawater, potable water etc. Contributed to the streamlining of the commissioning plan by aligning and grouping commissioning activities across common systems.

Mobilised initially to the client’s (Total Fina Elf) office in Dubai and then to site on Kharg Island for the construction and commissioning phase. The project encompassed the major modification of 2 land rigs from static single well facilities to rigs with integrated hydraulic rig skidding systems for pad (multiple well) drilling.

My main responsibility was the production of engineering documentation for allocated scopes of work e.g. calculations, design reports, purchase specifications, basis of design, survey reports etc. I undertook various projects including overboard diverter line installation, air compressor installation, drillfloor winch replacement etc.

Due to my technical knowledge, I was engaged to support a fast track project to install a Portable Top Drive (PTD) onto the Britannia Platform. Managed the preparation phase onshore and then travelled offshore to support the installation and testing phase.

Responsible for managing the inspection, repair, overhaul and function testing of capital drilling equipment; Top Drives, Hydraulic Roughnecks, Pipe Handling Equipment etc. In addition liaising with clients, preparing cost estimates, managing and reporting progress and ensuring legislative requirements for the overhaul and recertification of the equipment were met.

Responsible for various crane upgrade and maintenance projects including; slew ring change out, boom replacement, MIPEG installation etc. I was also appointed to support Reflex Marine in the testing and certification of the FROG transfer carrier prior to its full market launch.

Completed graduate training program prior to being appointed into a project role. Gained experience offshore on various Jack-Ups and Semi-Submersibles whilst on surveys and at the company headquarters for equipment manufacturing, testing and training courses. I developed a thorough understanding of drilling equipment (Top Drives, Hydraulic Roughnecks, Pipe Handling Equipment etc) through the manufacturing process and during equipment overhauls.
