Construction Health & Safety Manager / CDM Coordinator on a £59 Million project to replace an existing converter off gas ducting x 2.The aim of the project is to remove the current open circuit cooling system and replace with a new evaporated steam closed circuit cooling system within the Basic Oxygen Steel Plant The work includes the removal and replacement of large skirt; lower & upper hood sections, radiation sections, deflection bend and saturated venturi.Associated works include a new demineralisation plant for the required quality feed water, a super heater and a steam turbine for generating electricity from the evaporated steam. This project is particularly challenging due to the adjacent manufacturing vessel being live, plant logistics, working at multiple levels and the use of non-English speaking labour.

CORUS Strip Products / Tata Steel, Port Talbot Works.Health & Safety – Project & Design. Working as a H & S Advisor on a top tier COMAH site, covering diverse complex projects ranging from new construction (e.g. – new No.3 Continuous Casting Machine @£79 million investment) which included the largest concrete pour in South Wales (at that time) within a 24 hour period (1017 cu mtr), to refurbishment (e.g. – H,S & environmental management of the refurbishment of Morfa Coke Oven Batteries @£48 million investment), paying particular attention to the CDM94/07 Regulations (Construction, Design and Management Regulations 1994/07).H & S Advisor on the refurbishment of No.4 Blast Furnace which consisted of 108 contract companies with 1200 contract personnel, carrying out civil, structural and gas pipe work refurbishment /installation during an 8 day period at the cost of approximately £16 million.H & S Advisor on the construction of a steam boiler and gas/water pipeline installation. (Project Cost approx £6 million) including welfare facilities inclusive of office space and electrical control rooms.Management of H & S on a large construction project under taking activities listedErect a single, gasholder 56.6 meters high x 54 meters in diameter with 75,000 cubic meters of volume.Construction of two cyclonic separators Construction of two valves changes over stations. Construction of elevated pipeline and trestles from the BOS plant to the gasholder and from the gasholder to the Power plant. Construction of a precipitator and gas booster.Construction of slurry water sumps. H & S Management during the demolition and rebuild of 2 reheat furnaces (dual fuel – natural gas and Coke Oven Gas) – this involved all aspects of civil, structural and refractory engineering at an investment of approx £40 million. This project was particularly challenging due to the timescales involved, plant geography and the use of non-English speaking labour.

British Steel / CORUS Strip Products, Port Talbot Works.Cold Mill Team Member.My primary role within CRP was a member of a multi functional manufacturing team.In addition I was a Health and Safety Representative for Cold Mill, Joint Works Health & Safety Advisory committee (JWHSAC). Duties include the identification of operational hazards, subsequent risk and the generation of Safe Working Procedures. Also there were auditing and report generation duties to both local and senior management within the organisation.Additionally, West Glamorgan Fire Service as a retained fire fighter employed me. I was based at Station 4, Port Talbot and remained an active member from 1990 – 1995. Due to my experience as a fire fighter I was asked to join the British Steel Works rescue team becoming a team leader.
