About Robert Davey

Worked till Nov. 22, 2022, as a part-time copy editor at the New Britain Herald/Bristol Press.First drawn to journalism by a still-unsolved crime in Vancouver, BC, in 1989: a woman, a registered nurse, was abducted and killed after suffering years of harassment. Police had failed to take her complaints seriously.Since 2015 a member of a team seeking production partners to make a documentary about the 1996 TWA Flight 800 crash. Some columns in the Connecticut Post: July 18, 2017, on misrepresentations made by the Bush administration, which had claimed in 2007 it lacked legal authority to conduct warrantless electronic surveillance on targets abroad; March 11, 2018, a comparison of the 3rd and 2nd Amendments; April 22, 2018, an account of misconduct during a Democratic primary in a Bridgeport, Conn., council district which later led to federal charges; July 25, 2018, a review of the TWA Flight 800 crash and investigation, with examples of eyewitness and physical evidence that remained unexplained; and June 23, 2019, remembering working with Franco Zeffirelli.Previously reported on the electronic surveillance issues in the July/August 2015 issue of Penthouse magazine, and in the Village Voice, March 6, 2013, and previously in the Village Voice, Oct. 31, 2007. Summing up my reporting:A decades-old regulation appeared to permit warrantless electronic surveillance, within the U.S., of foreign terrorists in other countries, suggesting that the 2008 FISA Amendments Act added no wiretapping authorities that were not already part of the government's arsenal.Hence the NSA wiretapping program, insofar as it was made legal by the 2008 FISA Amendments Act, was already legal, suggesting that whistleblowers had misled the New York Times about illegal NSA wiretapping. In my Penthouse story, I raised questions about one of those whistleblowers, Thomas Tamm, and about the documents released in 2013 by Edward Snowden.August 2010 to November 2013, was a part-time freelance copy editor and writer at three alternative weeklies in Connecticut, at Hartford Magazine and at New Haven Living.2000 to 2014, worked intermittently as a stringer for the New York Times. In 2003 learned QuarkXPress at the Register Citizen in Torrington, Conn., and was hired as a copy editor/page designer. In 2005 was managing editor for the Norwalk Citizen-News and in 2008-2009 was copy editor/page designer for Greenwich Time, where I learned InDesign. Worked briefly at Martha Stewart Kids magazine in 2006.Leeds University, BA Sociology, and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Listed skills include Writing, Social Media, Editing, Printing, and 4 others.

Guest Columnist

Norwalk, Connecticut, Us

Wrote an op-ed, published July 18, 2017, describing my attempts, in articles in the Village Voice and Penthouse magazine, and in emails and calls to editors, to draw attention to what appeared to be a campaign of misinformation by the Bush administration: The administration campaigned for laws to give it the authority to collect foreign terrorists' communications without a warrant, but in fact these powers already existed, in decades-old regulations that complied with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Also wrote op-eds about the TWA Flight 800 investigation; the anachronism of the Third Amendment, comparing its language with that of the Second Amendment; potential absentee ballot irregularities in a court-ordered Democratic primary for city council in the district where I live; and a reminiscence of working as an actor with director Franco Zeffirelli.
