Design of electronic enclosures that have to withstand extreme environmental conditions. This includes 2 shot injection mouldings, high pressure die castings and conventionally machined parts. Enclosures have to pass drop tests of up to 2m after temperature cycling and ingress protection up to IP67. Responsible for signing off all tooling GA’s and approval of initial samples. This involves numerous trips to China to witness first off tool trials.In charge of two additional Designers, carrying out annual appraisals and allocating work load.Implemented a PDM system and created a new drawing control procedure, which satisfied the requirements of Baseefa (Atex Certification Body).

Responsible for the design of drug delivery devices that incorporate precision injection moldings, ensuring that all parts are designed for manufacture and all regulatory requirements are conformed to. This includes the production of all necessary detailed engineering drawings and cad data (using Solidworks), liaising with suppliers and sub contractors. Have additional responsibility for carrying out Design FMEA's and being the single point of contact for the customer on all design issues. Within this role I have made several trips to customer sites to present new concepts and design improvements to existing devices.

Responsible for investigating cost saving opportunities on all products, both old and new. This involves looking at the design of individual parts, changing the material it's made from, re designing the part itself, or looking at implementing Lean design techniques on complete products. Also responsible for consolidation of supplier base, this involves re sourcing existing business to cheaper far eastern sources. Within this role I made several trips to Chinese suppliers. I had full responsibility for the sourcing of all tooling and full management of tooling projects. I had been targeted with delivering cost savings of three times my salary each year and achieved this both years.

Full responsibility for all aspects of the mechanical design, from concept through into production. This included producing 3d cad data and 2d drawings of plastic moldings, aluminum castings and sheet metal enclosures to obtaining quotes, managing time scales and sourcing suppliers. Within this role I was using Pro Engineer, SolidWorks and AutoCAD LT. Was responsible for the mechanical design of the companies first IP67 and highest volume selling portable gas detector.

As below with additional responsibilities of training other Staff members, maintaining the CAD System and liaising with Customers and Design Agencies. More advanced surfacing work on Pro Engineer and some use of Pro Manufacture to machine simple vac forming tools. Gained experience of reverse engineering principles using Geomagic software.

Designing and detailing plastic injection molded, zinc die cast and vacuum formed components, for use in drink dispensers and bar counter mounts, again using Pro Engineer. Liaised with tool makers on best design practices and gained experience of rapid prototyping techniques and processes.

Transferring design ideas from the project office into production by producing accurate engineering drawings, using Tangram Swift workstations and later Pro Engineer.

Assembly, installation and commissioning cryogenic instruments both in the UK and abroad.

Assembling equipment as below and building more complex 'made to order' instruments.

1 year in Vacuum Leak Test Department, checking various soldered and welded joints.3 years in Assembly, building cryogenic instruments involving turning, milling, soldering, welding and general fitting.
